I have sold, traded, and given away quite a bit with no regrets because those with whom I sold to, traded with, and gave away really wanted the tool more than I did.  Its actually makes me even happier than owning the tool myself knowing its in someones possession who is super stoked about owing it.

I used to give away tools to friends, but after a few things that happened I stopped doing it. Things like seeing the knife I gave them trashed and broken. I have also given SAK's to people and a week later they gift it to someone else. After crap like that I realized most people do not "respect" knives like I do and treat them like crap or just plain do not use them or care. I rather have a knife sitting in pristine condition than give it to someone who destroys it.

On the flip side. If I knew someone would actually use the knife and/or simply enjoy having it then that's another thing. Sadly I have thought that before and been very disappointed.

I agree Cap.  I would want to know the person would appreciate and value it.

Due to finances I recently sold my CT41's. Those were my favorite SAKs  :-[

I have not sold one to miss, but I did lose one. It was about 15-20 years ago now. A blue SAK, possibly a huntsman, I remember the saw blade. My sister gave to me after visiting Switzerland, customised with my initials on it (SM). Then I went ahead and lost it while fishing.
I felt bad.
She passed from a brain tumour last year, it would be awesome to somehow rediscover it, but I suspect it will never be seen again.
