I have settled on Corel Paintshop Pro X6. I prefer it to Adobe...but that is personal preference.

I applied:
1. One Step Photo Fix.
2. Hue/Saturation 50% on the Master Channel.
3. Fill Flash x2.
4. Sharpening...which accounts for the terrible background as this was a quick application.
A little Leatherman information.

thanks for that,  I feel like a captain hindsight

I see a picture that has been adjusted beside the original, and I agree it is better, however, when I just see the original, I do not see what is wrong with it.

I do not have an eye for what is wrong, just what has been (PAST TENSE) improved.  I hope over time to notice more and more,  right now I am just happy to be out taking pictures, and learning the camera.
If I can help, let me know

Just go out and have fun. With a lot of photo taking, things will fall into place. Before you know it, you won't be thinking about things and it will come naturally to you.

Here is a tip, if you have an external flash gun, use it on birds in daylight. The pop of the flash will bring out their plumage colours, and also act as a fill flash.

Digital photos often need tweaking. Just remember that back in the days of film, it was the same, either in the darkroom or at the local photo-finisher. Digital photos often needs some help.

I can easily suggest Corel over Adobe. I have both but like Corel's interface, and the price is also a lot better.

I think I might try PaintShop Pro X7 and see how I like it.  I mainly use Adobe Lightroom, and I also have Adobe Photoshop Elements.  Elements is good, and came free with something I bought (can't remember what though).

As Dan said, it will all come in time.  If your editor has an auto button, just try that.  They usually (at least in Lightroom) produce good results, and will allow you to instantly see what it thinks the pic should look like.  You can either then leave it as is, undo it, or tweak it more.

I am having a blast!  (not Leatherman Blast  )  and I am very surprised how well the learning is going.
I am still just an idiot with a camera, but not as idiotic as when I first got it.  I seem to learn new things every time I play with it, and that helps motivate me to keep going.

I do appreciate everyone's help,  and I do not confuse corrective criticism with meanness like some people, so feel free to go,  "Hey, idiot,  you did ______" or "You should have done this"  I will not take it as negativity, but as betterment,
If I can help, let me know

I bet,  but I know what novice means, it is a polite (or PC) way to say idiot at something. but you cannot skip that phase, you can only accept your place and strive to get promoted to master over time.

I am a Padawan and I hope that I can learn from you Jedi masters :jedi:

so feel free to critique the smurf out of me,  I need to learn, and this is the best way,  if common errors can be stopped early, then they do not become a permanent wrong that becomes the bases of future wrongs.  fix it early.

hi there, you are doing a great job here in experimenting more and more.
the more you try, the better your photos will become, especially if you read tips and guide.

just to throw my (well not exactly mine as we'll see) 2cents, once I've read these words from Capa (going by memory here...) if your picture isn't good you need to get closer.

to me, these are words of wisdom.

well and what would have Capa said, then? He was a war photographer!

edit: I'm not really sure about the last phrase I wrote, somewhat it doesn't sound correct to me. Provided you can understand  what I wanted to say, can you help me formulating it properly?
thank you!

had a few minutes to go play in the yard with the camera,  no post processing yet,  but I did have a blast.

I took many other photos, and played with some time lapse sky shots, that worked OK for a first run,  once some more flowers start to bloom, I plan some time lapse fun.

anyway,  spring is finally coming.

this mushroom is TINY,  I did not even see that fly until I looked at the picture on the computer.

due to my large hands, and the small size of the Canon Rebel T5i,  I bought a battery grip

This one

it has an intervelometer which my camera did not have, and it works very well.

this video shows a nice little review of it.

Canon T2i/T3i Meike Battery Handgrip + LCD

also this grip has a remote sensor that I can initiate the shutter with (I know the camera already had that)  but, this one works no matter what the camera is not set for remote.  it is a great battery grip. for the price.

Like that last one...very nice composition. Here it is with a little post processing.

I bought something similar for my IR Canon DSLR. It works great for the price. I know you will enjoy the greater real estate and battery life with a second battery installed.  :tu:

that looks very nice once you touched it up a bit.  I think I will focus on post processing on the rainy days.   and glad you liked it,  once I got the hang of focusing and then composing the picture with the shutter release held half in, everything is easier.

I do love that battery grip,  the camera has a better balance for me.

There were a couple of Blue Jays in our backyard on the weekend, and I really wish I had of had a long lens like that to snap a few pics. :(

testing out the intervalometer that came built into my battery grip, I just decided to capture the moving sky,

**note to self,  stay out of the frame!**

dog needed to go out,  so I photo-bombed my own shots.
