Love Sabotage! As difficult as it is to single out any Sabbs album, fave for me has to be 'Master of Reality' just because of 'Into the Void' such a simple and brutal riff once you get to 1.14, although 'Heaven and Hell' is a close close second.

Here's a great new Rammstein song - join in the chorus Ja, Nein, Rammstein'!

Heaven and Hell, or should I say Live Evil? And Paranoid with Ozzy.

I try to hold on and music helps. Another classic.

I have basically seen the original Sabbath constellation live but in two shows. Ozzy with his own band and the rest of them with Dio under the Heaven and Hell name. It's really hard to pin a "best album" to them since there's great tracks on so many of them!

I became a hard rock and heavy metal fan during the '80s, in my teens. I heard most of the relative material from the Rock n' Roll era up to the start of the '90s, but medical school, marriage and kids prevented me from knowledge of the later years, say 1990 up to today. 1990-2010 I was fixed on classical music, with occassional sessions of older rock material. Rock was out of fashion, just Metallica and grunge here and there, and all my music money went for classical CDs. I had the opportunity to see Deep Purple and Blue Oyster Cult at least. But I don't know most of the newer metal groups and songs.
So, I am asking, are there newer songs that have a legendary/cult/artistic status similar to that of the classics like Smoke on the Water, Ace of Spades, Black Dog, Godzilla, The Number of the Beast, Breaking the Law, Back to Black, Rock you like a Hurricane and so on? Could you provide a list or links to make contact with the more recent evolution of this great music?
Mind that I prefer (a bit) Hard Rock to Heavy Metal, Hammond use, power and operatic vocals than brutal, art and virtuosity over sonic attacks (classical, jazzy and ethnic influences welcomed), but I love string riffs and solos and a nice epic/hymn tone, even punk. Am I too old fashioned (or just plainly too old)?

Opeth are very heavily influenced by a 70s band called Camel and in fact Opeth's newer stuff sounds more in line with them, especially since they have dropped the harsh vocals. Hammond organs feature a lot in Opeth.

These days I tend to favour harsh over clean vocals, but more and more bands are doing a mix which is fine too.

Sounds like you' re in my age group. And your music tastes morphed along a common theme and path. Not unusual at all. I'm fairly out of touch with the latest as well, for similar reasons. Life kind of happens, and we don't spend money and time on music. One day we wake up and look around and  realize everything changed. To do well playing heavy music in our day, people were expected to be virtuosos or go home. Then it went the other way for years. It's all coming back somewhat as kids discover their parent's old concert jerseys and wonder who those bands were. Seems it was no problem finding melody along with hard rock and metal back in the '80's.

When I heard Hard Rock and Heavy Metal for the first time, my English were much poorer than now. So I could hardly make out the lyrics with drums bombing and quitars screeming. I mostly appreciated the music. But simple refrains stand out.

Another great tune KK  :salute:

Dio's lyrics, with their dragons, swords and Elves, were often quite profound beneath the surface. I remember feeling quite lost in my teenage years and heard Ronnie singing  'I'll give you a star, so you'll know just where you are' and feeling so good - I came to realise recently he is a bit of a father figure for me - albeit one I've never met, but all the same. He still means an awful lot to me.

Well, if you like Ronnie and Elves, here you are!

You forgot the Prophets!

No wonder Dio was fixated on Elves, since he was called the "Pigmy".

But he was a GIANT of music, singing heavenly way before Hard Rock and Heavy Metal were invented.

There is no great genius without a mixture of madness. You tell us!

I guess you aren't familiar with Greek rock stage of the '70s.
Aphrodite's Child was a Progressive Rock group 1967-1972.
Group members:

Vangelis (Odysseas Papathanasiou)
Demis Roussos
Loukas Sideras

I guess you know the first two.

666 was their psychedelic concept album with lyrics from the great director Kostas Ferris (of the "Rembetico" film).

Premetal, but cult.
