Cybertools name change?
on: May 06, 2015, 03:02:37 PM
I'm sorry if I'm late to the party but... when the CT names changed to S, M, L?

http://www.victorinox.com/ch/content/search?searchterm=cybertool

I support this change! I always counted up to 31 in my CT34

Does anyone know why the CyberTools are referenced by numbers "29", "34" and "41".  Are these the number of functions of the knife?

I guess so, although I could only count 33 on the model 34.  I'm missing something?

Oh.  I forgot the nail file on the multihook.

Which ones did you count? Don't forget the ball point pen, it doubles as a dip switch setter

I own a 34, it doesn't have a file in the hook.

Victorinox counts (copy from original manual)
Quote
1.   large blade
2.   small blade
3.   corkscrew
4.   can opener with
5.    -small screwdriver 3 mm
6.   cap lifter with
7.    -screwdriver 6 mm
8.    -wire stripper
9.   reamer, punch
10. key ring
11. tweezers
12. toothpick
13. sewing eye
14. wrench with
15.  -5 mm female Hex drive for D-SUB connectors
16.  -4 mm female Hex drive for the bits
17.  -Bit Philips 0 (Pozidrive)
18   -Bit Philips 1 (Pozidrive)
19. case with
20.  -bit Slotted 4 mm
21.  -Bit Philips 2
22.  -Bit Hex 4 mm
23.  -Bit Torx 8
24.  -Bit Torx 10
25.  -Bit Torx 15
26. pressurized ballpoint pen
27.  -also to set DIP-switches
28. pin stainless steel
29. mini-screwdriver 1.5 mm
30. pliers with
31.  -wire crimping tool
32.  -wire cutters
33. scissors
34. multi-purpose hook

I don't count 14 nor 19 either because those are not usable tools. Nobody counts this way:
...
4. large blade
5. scales with
6.  -toothpick
7.  -tweezers
...

Scales able to hold more tools are nice, but are only structural

Now, I don't count 27 either because reasons. Obvious reasons.

By the way I can still see the 29, 34 and 41 names

Let go through this.  I made some assumptions from the photo of the CyberTool 34.

Bit wrench can be used with other bits, so yes it's a tool.  If I had a bit driver in my pocket I would call it a tool.

1. Large blade
2. Small blade
3. Scissors
4. Pliers
5. Can opener
6. Small flat blade screwdriver
7. Cap lifter
8. Large flat blade screwdriver
9. a poor excuse for a wire stripper, aka wire snapper
10. tweezers
11. toothpick
12. straight pin
13. pen
14. micro-screwdriver
15. multi-purpose hook
16. awl
17. corkscrew
18- 33. Eight double sided bit tools?
34. keyring

35. dip switch setter

Yes it is a tool, but they count it 3 times (14,15,16): wrench, 5mm wrench, 4mm wrench.
I count it twice.

Nope, it redirects to a different site depending on your country/region :(

Yep.  Your right.  I started wondering where all those bits were stored.

And my CyberTool 34 / Cybertool M link is actually this:

Yes, and the link in your first post gives a 404 when visiting from Europe. Like I said, the Victorinox site redirects to different sites/pages depending on where you're visiting from. Really annoying, it breaks a lot of links from Google results as well.

Cybertool 2.5? :P

It's just naming. For a long time we didn't have Spirit X or S. They were called Spirit II, Spirit III,...

Makes total sense. When a given company splits his website, we in SA usually get linked to the NA version.
I find it extremely cool to have the same version as Swiss people for the Vic site. :)

The only model I can see as a total success would be the 34/M minus the pliers, since it would shave one of the most expensive layers but still have scissors which probably is the most demanded layer besides the two base ones.
Don't forget that in the last years Vic added dozens of "new" models from Wenger. Those needed minor adaptations, space in lines of production, rethinking of supply acquires, and a ton of company work which would be very similar to the needed for "let's make a new CyberTool".
