Is it bad that that looks like so much fun?

That's not a Gerber Diesel, though, is it?

I don't think I've shared this one here before. Out in the country of my Island home is a disused train line. There are current proposals for a cycling rail trail and a counter proposal for a tourist rail line. Anyway, I've ridden through the tunnel on the line on my motorbikes at a location aptly named "Tunnel."

The tunnel is 700m long and is nice and cool inside, despite very warm weather on this day

I have made the mistake on both times riding through, of being on the outside of the tracks, and not in between. There's less room to move and gets rather bumpy over the sleepers where the fill has washed away, plus blackberries are smurfholes even in motorcycle gear!

Hopefully the tourist rail proposal gets up and there can be a co-existing cycle route that doesn't involve ripping up the track and losing it to history only

Heard the TranzAlpine go past as I was dropping the kids off at school so I chased it down the road until I could get a pic.

Yeah that's the one alright.
Your pics look like Arthur's Pass, I've done a fair bit of tramping up there and always enjoyed the area.

Took the train from Christchurch up to Arthur's Pass, then a bus to the west coast. Next day was a helicopter flight up to the Fox Glacier. Spectacular!

Mounts Tasman and Cook from the helicopter.

That helicopter ride up to Fox Glacier is something else, isn't it!?

I missed seeing this old girl though:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Au48voygZZ0

When I was 7 I entered a competition to draw K88 as it's restoration had just been completed (it had been dumped in a river as flood protection for many years).
First place went to a girl whose father was involved in the restoration and brought home pictures for her to draw from.
I had never seen it so just drew a steam engine and came second. I won a ride in the engine.
My friend copied my picture and came third.  :D
