GASP! LM/PTX Piranha Clone!
on: August 18, 2013, 01:00:36 AM
AND EVEN IN TIGER STRIPE!

The hex hole looks too small, its probably a 1/8" bit, like the one in the middle. The keychain hole is also interesting.

Buying 2 now...

I wonder if they bothered to make the wrench sizes correctly. Will be waiting for the report when you get it. :tu: I won't be ordering one but I understand your need to get one to compare it with the rest of "The Family". :D

That's ok, I wasn't sure myself and had to dig up the pic to check!  :D

Usually there aren't teeth on the opposite side of wrenches like this so that it can be slid over the nut easier.

I have them all and I like the last edition from PTX the most, the edges are crisper than the LM version.

Bottom to top:S30v,Ti (005/100), 154cm BO 440, 440 and LM 440 versions

Soon to have the HK Outdoors noname steel version :)

The knock off has a tiger stripe pattern.  Clearly that makes it superior.  Clearly.

I often wondered about that tiger stripe pattern thingie. Quite a few of the chinese made knife/tool related stuff has it. And not only knockoffs. I have a SRM 707 (never thought of that one as a knockoff for some reason ;) ) and the main difference to the Drifter is the tiger stripe pattern. :D Do they think it will sell more cause of the tacticoolness? :P

Well, this is silly.

Just got any email from DX telling me that it's back ordered, but will have the stock in a week.

Anyways, one step closer to having the real deal soon!

As a Chinese myself I can tell you that the tiger is our patron saint of forged iron. During the Wei dynasty naturally occurring steel was found in small, rare amounts and owing to its properties always formed long, claw shaped veins in the ground. Legends speaks of a great, monstrous tiger named Wu Shan who's very footsteps placed steel into the earth as his claws pierced the ground. Of course that's just a myth. :tu:

Or I made all that up and it's just because it looks cool. And I wouldn't be surprised if they thought it was cool because of early American movie influences. :D

I am going to go with Rambo and Iron Eagle for those references.

I am anxious to see how these things machine, I am wanted to make a slot for LM bits so I can carry two in it. Maybe make myself a de-hooked LM Cam OPMT.

Oh yah!

I have them on my bench, I was going to give it a little bit of usage before I give it a nice review.

In short, the edges and wrench openings are nice a crisp, the coating is paint, and the hole is 1/8" not 1/4".

This thread is pretty old now - do you still plan on doing some sort of review on the clones?

Just curious!
