I took apart a few 84mm knives this weekend to start a project.  Tonight, I was going through the parts and looking at options to make a couple of shim washers for spacing the blades.  I noticed that the Electrician's blade taken from the 84mm "Radio Shack" knife has a 3mm hole instead of a 2.2mm hole.  I know that it must be the blade as it is the only Electrician's blade I've removed from any knife.  Has anyone else come across this, where an 84mm tool has a larger than 2.2mm hole?

Picture of hole sizes compared on these 84mm parts.  Apparently, they used the 93mm Electrician's blade in the 84mm.  Not just the hole but the tang is larger too.  Interesting the dimension from the bottom of the hole (when closed in a knife) and the bottom of the tang resting on the back spring when closed is roughly the same between these blades / tools.  There is probably more tension when opening the blade because of the length of the tang.  It will be interesting to see how this works with a solid back spring 84mm, as it was mounted with a back spring holding a Phillips back-side tool.

Yes they only make one size part, so they use the one with oversize holes.

Same thing on the 91mm swisschamp XLT.  The layer with pruner / eblade, both have oversize holes.  It bugs me, but doenst make a huge difference.

That's good to know.  I had wondered about getting an Electrician or Pruner blade for a 91mm.  They can be difficult or expensive to come by.  It looks like a 93mm alox might be a cheaper alternative if it is the same blade anyway.

For many years of use of the 84mm "Radio Shack" Electrician's knife, I never had any problems with it.

Just the krink is different from a 93 and a 84. Also the 93 is thicker I think.
