Converting a disposible lighter into a pocket torch?
« on: May 16, 2015, 03:51:57 PM »
I came across an add-on for disposable lighters for converting a lighter into a tiny torch: http://the-gadgeteer.com/2015/05/04/convert-a-disposible-lighter-into-a-pocket-torch/

Has anybody tested something like this? Seems very handy, but I wonder about whether it works properly and its practicality and longevity. Seems like a good idea to me, but...

Hummm...seems like an OK idea, but at $20 I'd suggest you can get a turbo flame lighter, for less, that would do exactly the same thing.

Oh, I already have a conventional turbo flame lighter, this is curiosity speaking. :) (Finding the exact match for re-fill lighters might be a problem here. I can't remember having seen exactly that type in the stores.)

I've had a couple cheap 8 dollar versions just like in my electronics drawer for a decade or so. $20 is too much.
Mine are branded Cassette I believe.
Works in a pinch as long as fuel is warm, when cooler an pressure drops, its click click click, Fargo.
Like how far will it go when I huck it.

I read an advert that basically said the same thing: http://www.tamarackoutdoors.co.uk/PBSCProduct.asp?ItmID=14856824

Great, a lighter that doesn't work when it's cold. ::)

So true, I used mine for soldering in field, lots etc.
When it worked I could fix wiring like a champ without much issue.
