upcoming camping trip
on: May 26, 2015, 07:12:16 AM
in what is becoming an annual tradition, my brother (Delta10) and I will be taking my boys (ages 8 and 5) camping in a couple weeks. my boys love camping, hiking, and the outdoors in general, so this is always a fun weekend with them, and some great bonding time... but it's also a great time for me and my bro to play with some of our favorite sharp, shiny toys. :D

on this particular trip, I am planning to:
  • do a side-by-side comparison of all 3 of my sporks (and earn the Sporkman merit badge in the process)
  • use a couple different firestarting methods and earn the Fire Making badge
  • take a few pics of my ESEE 5 in action just for Aloha007 :D
  • take pics of the meals we cook and earn the Outdoor Cook badge
  • take some pics of the campsite in general to qualify for the Camping badge ;)

anything I'm missing? any other pics that you guys would like to see?

I'm planning on bringing my ReCharge, ESEE 5, ESEE Candiru, and a Vic SAK -- either a Huntsman or Farmer. I haven't decided which SAK yet... they were both won in MTo giveaways, but I'm torn between the functionality of the Huntsman (thanks Lynn!) and the silky appeal of the Alox (thanks Detron!). I might bring a Crunch as well just for fun. ;)

I should also note that there's a Surge in the car if the ReCharge breaks or I need a second pair of pliers, plus my boys will both have their Leap and their Style PS with them. and my brother will have at least a couple LMs and a fixed blade, so I think we'll be covered. :D

Sounds like fun! Don't forget to tie something and get your paracord badge.

Sounds like a great time with the guys.  I'm excited to see the ESEE in action.  I'm a recent convert to the Huntsman and now pack it in my camping gear.  It's such a hard call between Alox goodness and the practicality of the Huntsman.

Have fun.  :tu:
Camping is always an experience.

I'm interested to see what everyone says about equipment, because I am going with a scout camp soon.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

@ #1 you have sporked my interest
@ #2 you have sparked my interest
@ #4 you have my pity >:D, well actually only if you also eat it after you took the picture :P
@ #5 I will enjoy those pictures from the comfort of my living room couch (while sipping a cold beverage).
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

there's not really any fishing available where we're going, just a small creek... and I don't think I even own a SAK with a scaler.

but I'm sure something will get fixed with duct tape at some point during the trip. :D

Sounds like you have as much as possible in order!  I can't wait to hear about your adventure!  I have a trip scheduled for next month and I'm really looking forward to unwinding.

I know exactly what you mean... one of my favorite things about the area we're headed to is that there's absolutely NO cell signal. ;) I sit in front of a computer all day at work, so sometimes it's really nice to just completely disconnect for a few days.

And people call camping roughing it. That looks like smoothing it to me. Also, cell phone with no signal, hell ya!

Hook merit badge. You must own a SAK with hook.  :pok:
