Help plan my MT build

About to start buying MTs and parts for a build, let me know what you think. Any other mods I should consider at the same time? I know the s30v is sexy, but is there real everyday reason to not just use the 420hc?

If you choose to use Wave as chassis, stay with 420hc blade for the time being and upgrade it later if needed.
If you decided to go with a BO tool, keep these in mind:
1. Will cost more
2. There are no BO wingman, so you will end up with a black tool with stainless external scissors
3. As you modding the tool, good chance you will leave scratch marks on the BO finish.
4. BO s30v or 154cm blades are pretty rare to come by.

Interesting points Kampfer, I never considered scratching the BO finish. I knew about the wingman only in silver and was also considering the VIC scissors so that didn't bother me, same with the main plain edge blade. I cut food with the plain edge once in a while so I was thinking about having that stainless anyway. Not sure I want black oxide cancer yet.

One thing you could do is use BO Wave as Chassis and have all tools stainless, would look sick!

I've done this before, both with BO Wave handles and with Wave handles that have been cerakoted black, and I can confirm that yes, indeed, the finished product looks incredible!

You might be disappointed with the performance of the Wingman scissors.  If mine are typical (installed in a single arm Wave) they suffer from the triple whammy of wide angle, a very smooth grind and a lack of stiffness.  IIRC, somebody (zoid?)  posted a profile regrind mod which improves the angle.  In all respects except for large paper cuts, outperformed by Style.

FWIW, to make space for an awl I'd sacrifice, or dump as I prefer, the precision driver and retain the Wave scissors.

Don't take this as a put down,it's not ment to be,but,when planning a mod,to my mind,you should be planning around the tool load you really need.

The basic Wave is a great tool,but is there a real benefit FOR YOU in changing the plier head? Are Wingman scissors better than a Waves?

I'm a big user of modded MTs. My KSTs and Kirkyclip both only change out a redundant blade for scissors. My modded Fuse added bit drivers which gave it massively enhanced capacity. My modded Rebar added a bit driver and scissors,but despite a higher tool density is not a better everyday tool than the Fuse.

On the other hand my P.U.G mod stripped nearly everything out of my old Wave. It's perfect for its job(a airgun range tool) but rubbish for everything else.

In planning your mod,don't look at fashion,look at practicality!

Good point, I've been thinking about dumping that small driver, never really used it much so I can get away with it in the bit kit in my bag.

I've modded Gerbers in the past(MP600/DET hybrid), I like the Rebar pliers for the replacable jaws, I've dinged my Surge up cutting Hescos so now I'm weary of using them on anything harder than coat hangers. Completely agree to include the tools I use the most, but always look cool.
