I would love to see the axx go back a century. i hate the new wounder steels and polomer handles. Give me a Neely And Snow, or a nordic axx anyday. Sharper and better made!!

better joint between blade and handle shaft, something that could bash thru surfaces, like firemens axes have at the blades tail.better sheaths and NO nonsense design.no hollow handles since they dont ever put in anything well made.it seems.i had this....cheap....maybe it was even branded as smith&wesson camping axe,it had a knif einside handle but it was poor poor poor...

You have just described a Fiskars, except for the sheath.

The problem with a good axe is that to be convenient it needs to be light.  To be useful, it needs to be heavy.  A lightweight, easy to carry axe is only marginally more useful as the heavy axe you leave at home because it's too heavy to carry.

Unless someone can find a way to have an axe that is easy to carry but then has some serious weight to throw into chopping, I doubt we'll ever have a "perfect" axe.  This, incidentally, is one of the reasons I have enjoyed kayaking so much- I can pack lots of equipment into a decent sized kayak and not worry about the extra weight! :D  Plus, I have a set of wheels like this:

so portaging isn't a big problem, even with extra weight!  :D

I myself am a person who wants to see a throwback to some older days as well ;)  when they made better handles and better axe heads :(  Why can't a company manufacture a good quality axe  with such simply features as a good handle and good axe head ???

Probably because fancy materials sell better, and few people chop enough wood to know the difference.  It's not like the old days when you had to chop firewood constantly (although I am sure a few of you will say that you do!) in order to keep from freezing.  Like a rifle, an axe just isn't an every day item like it used to be.

i do atleast 50 percent of my homes heating with woodlogs, and like u said,in that u really start to notice some differences,if u chop wood all the time as i do too.welll not all the time but once in a week i chop for the wekks needs.
and nothing has been as good as my old hand forged swedish old axe,it aint hi tech in any view, but it beats the hell out of any gerbers or other gadget axes, which i also like & carry in woods.

well i think i wouldnt be here on forum if i owned everything.but about axe blades...theyre not expensive here, ive bought alot of hand forged vintage axes or blades from flee markets, sand blasted ema bit, sharpened, heated and oiled with really used motor oil to get nice blue/black finish, and they have served me for ages.

so if u need one blade, ill send u one if u pay for the s&h ;).
