I love the Gloucestershire countryside - amazing landscape and lots of hills to climb.
For my birthday I wanted to spend the day at Haresfield Beacon and Coaley peak.

From Haresfield Beacon you can see a long expanse of the mighty Sabrina or river Severn, once worshipped by the local tribes.

The beacon itself has a series of peaceful beech copses and hawthorn.

We had our picnic to the sound of skylarks - very peaceful and relaxing.

After letting the views sink in we went on to Coaley Peak, another place for great views - the hill is so steep it's used by hang-gliders, None today though. We took a look at the barrow nearby

Here's the slope the hang gliders launch themselves from;

Happy belated Birthday.
That scenery looks a bit like Ireland, except our "large" hills tend to be rocky.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

What part of Ireland are you from?

I spent a great holiday there with my wife before our daughter was born. Stayed in Dublin which is beautiful. The highlight of the trip was Newgrange. Unbelievable.

I'd love to go again. When were you there Kirky?

We've just arrived back from a briilliant day out to Greenham common (again), the White Horse at Uffington and Waylands Smithy, and a day FULL of Magpies. Someones trying to tell me something.

I took lots of pics and will post tomorrow. I'd love to hear about your trip to Newgrange.
