Thanks to all.

I had a look at some Diving shops but found nothing.

H1 steel. as used in the spyrco salt series should have been an option but maybe it is not suitable for anything other than knives (too brittle, too elastic, too weak ??? I do not really know.)

A coating is good, but it has to be scratch resistant and really on a knife that you need to sharpen could not work 100%

The beryllium alloy sound interesting, but its rockwell rating is quite low (copper is soft, berillium is brittle) for a knife.

Maybe a combination of all would make one multitool that works in sea water well?

The leatherman and the SOG shown look really sweet and expensive...

H1 steel would actually make a very good plier head - very hard, but extremely tough - it doesn't get brittle, either.  Spyderco had a demonstration when their H1 steel knives came out a few years ago where they bent the blade on a Pacific Salt 90 degrees in a vice and it didn't snap.

The problems would be:
1.  H1 is expensive
2.  H1 steel cannot be machined in certain ways because it's a work hardening steel.  For example, Spyderco does not flat grind any H1 blades.

I'm going back "A couple" years here.

But after my Wave and my OHT rusting in my pocket I'm on the prowl.

I'm living in the worst conditions for a MT.

Dipped in Salt water, falling in beach sand, covered in fish slime, cutting bait, bending hooks, and even sawing drift wood.

Did anyone ever find a solution? Maybe dip my wave in some T9 BioShield  efore every trip? But I don't want the oils dispensing into my pants if I'm wading

A buddy of mine charters out of San Diego.  He's carried a SwissTool for what has to be close to 20 years..... He uses it hard and it's finish doesn't seem to bothered at all by the environment.

SOG BlackTip?  at least they're cheap at the moment, handful left at West Marine for < $30.  Just take any stainless tool and rinse it with fresh water and spray down with CLP afterwards.

Lots of stainless marlinspike clasp knives issued by various navies for the last 100 years.

PM me if you want one of my kidneys for your SOG TiNi multitool.

OK, both my kidneys.

I am not sure what is more rust proof, BO Swisstool or polished Swisstool.

But i think the polished ST is more rust proof.
Other than that i don't think you can get a tool that is more rust proof.

Sounds like you need a Marine Tuff Cloth. Seriously these things are awesome. They will make your tool smell like gasoline for a day or two but make a invisible shield against rust. Best of all they do not leave a oily surface on your tools. Once it dries its like its not even there except for keeping the rust away. Check them out on youtube. For your needs I would get the Marine version.

It should keep the rust at bay MUCH better than before. I am interested to see your experience with them since you are in a highly corrosive area. Keep us updated.  :tu:

I have been using the stronger, marine version for a few years. I use it on any non SS blades I have stored/not used regularly (e.g. Svord) as I do not have to worry about them rusting when left for a few months/years.

The plastic container keeps it moist and it lasts for a long time.

The downside is the smell. Usually when I coat a few blades I have to leave them outside for a day or two, before storing, for the smell to go. (similar to brasso)
It seems to work well so far

I didn't find the smell that bad and once they dried I couldn't smell anything.   Maybe my sniffer isn't what it used to be.

I knew you would quote me on that.   :D

After I initially wrote that I used the cloth again and really got the full effect. It is quite pungent.

So this stuff is a liquid in a pouch, that a rag is soaked in?

What if I put the tool in the bag and shook it up?

There are various forms. Mine is a soaked rug in a plastic container. You can also buy the liquid itself or the rug in a pouch.

The one I linked to is the rag soaked in the stuff. I would personally stick with that unless you have a reason to want the liquid.
