Soldier scales

Have any of you ever seen the rubber on a Soldier scales separate?

Of course I don't have one.  I have seen rubberized strips separate off all sorts of things.  Toothbrushes, automotive stuff, kitchen utensils.  They get a little old, and off they come.  Doesn't really affect function, but it looks terrible.  Has to hurt the value if anyone ever decided to sell it.  Probably possible to glue a loose piece back before it is lost, but that would only be a temporary patch up job.  Best wishes.  G

I’ve not seen it, but it didn’t surprise me. Rubber coatings bonded to plastics usually have a finite life span.  Send it to Vic and for $5 they’ll fix it right up.

Mine was okay when I last checked it. But I'll keep a close eye on it. As gustophersmob says, send it back to Victorinox for a little rehab. Alternatively, new scales shouldn't be too difficult to scare up, especially if you don't mind waiting for them to clear customs.

I have every year of issue from 08 to 25 and none of them have done this, so I have to think this is just wear and tear on a well-loved and used knife.  New scales will fix you right up.

  Looks like our friend Gene has carried this one quite a bit.  Pockets are tough environments.  I know mine are.  Dirt, lint, sweat, car keys, hair, gas and oil, dog boogers.  Obviously, this little rubber strip got hard and cracked off.  You can see how it turned the lighter color as it oxidized or whatever you want to call it.  If it's a working piece, I would probably use it and forget about it.  Naturally new scales would make pretty again.  Certainly worth the small cost.  Best wishes.  G
