Help dating a victorinox "fisherman?"
on: June 08, 2015, 05:04:17 PM
Hi all,

Just opened a parcel and was hoping I could get some help dating what I believe to be a fisherman. Details are as follows:

No half stop on cap lifter tool also this is not sharpened.

no sewing eye in awl

scissors with screw not rivet - no split shot or crimpers of any kind and no groove for spring.

disgorger with numbers - magnetised

no hook on rear of scissors layer

half square Phillips on rear with can key slot

modern small blade - not clip point

tang reads victorinox switzerland stainless rostfrei - v is the same size as the rest of the text. Reverse is officier suisse with crossbow.

inlay of seahorse/fish on front scale.

keyring on blade layer as opposed to the newer models where it is near the awl.

Pics to follow.

Good details but still need pictures. So far you've narrowed is down to something in the 1975-1985 range. Pictures of the awl, tang stamps, and scissors can help narrow it down further.

Best guess is 1980-1983. Could be as early as 1978 if the inlays are nickel-silver (goldish color) instead of stainless steel (silver-white color). Tweezers - plastic tip or aluminum?

OK, based on everything I'd date this one to approx 1981 +/- a year or so in either direction. As it turns out, I have the exact same model/year in my collection:
