New Alox Model
on: June 17, 2015, 11:44:44 PM
Doug Dilman of VSAKCS has just announced that the 2014 KotY is available. It's a red Sea Pioneer 2223 (according to SAKwiki) that he calls a special ed. of the Pioneer. It's selling for $40.50 in US, extra for foreign mailings.
He can be reached at Casco Bay Cutlery, Freeport, Maine.

Cool model, +1 on seeing pics when any will be available.

Aren't we looking now at each new LE alox like it would be the last one? :)

You can download LibreOffice for free and read or create office docs, spreadsheets, etc.  Works on Windows or Mac.  Google Docs might also work.

I think we have all been made to believe that alox, the coloured one mainly, is really expensive, especially during the past few years. (I think the whole thing started with the Damascus pioneers...)

This, beautiful, knife would cost in its regular form around $30 ?  so you add the needle and the extra for the colour... the price goes up 1/4 ... is that low or reasonable or maybe too much ?

As we have seen during the past few weeks or year, (sellers in Amazon.de, Seitz (before...) and cuttlery shopp) this 1/4 price increase is more than enough to provide a healthy profit to the company (they may buy them for $15...)

Ofcourse, with the eBay/internet craze, the possibility of no more coloured alox and so on the perceptions of value/cost change..

I'm just used to paying the "Australia Tax" on all my SAKs and LMs. Like double the price that they're sold for in US. If buying from a Bricks and Mortar store the price can triple quite easily. So seeing a NIB Coloured Alox with Marlin Spike for $40US is pretty good!

On a similar note, Seitz sells a farmer for 80 euro plus 3 euro shipping, so it costs me 83 euro.

Now from the US a $41 Farmer, plus $26 for shipping, plus $15 for import tax means $82... A dollar is a bit less than a euro, but the totals are about the same..

So a $40 Farmer from the US is the same to me, in many ways, as an 80 euro farmer, from within the EU.  :ahhh

How much was SwissBianco selling them for if you don't mind my asking?  My guess would be several times $40.

Hmmm.....sorry,bit underwhelmed by this one

Well, you either jones for the marlinspike or not.  I just love them.

NIB Pioneer 2223 (Sea Pioneer) or any sacking needle (marlinspike) alox for that matter is unheard off at $40. And this is a limited edition model with less than 100 produced. The price is not good, it is incredibly good and I believe we may even have a record for the lowest retail price for such a SAK since Victorinox discontinued the regular marlinspike alox models.

Its good to see people selling those at a price that allows them to make a decent profit, without ripping people off.

How does one become a member? I sent Doug an email asking about the knife but did not get a reply.
