Hey chako that's a nice little setup! Depending on what the wife wants to do I might have to look into something like that. I know she has something similar for her stamps.

It is a good set up for protecting coins...and also a little easier to store them over the long term.

Don't get me started on stamp collecting. My mother was so much into that that I inherited 10 binders full of her world stamp collection...above my own.

I stopped collecting stamps mostly about the time I stopped collecting coins, even though I still actively collect Canadian First Day Covers.

With the slow phasing out of stamps (email, posting without stamps) hopefully our collections will become valuable..

Awesome, Chako! I always admire it when people put lots of effort into collecting, organizing and taking care of something for years :tu:

When it comes to coins, I have the weird habit of wondering what a certain coin was traded for, what it bought, did it feed a hungry person, did it buy someone's present, did anyone die for it..

I agree. As I mentioned before the oldest USA coin I have is the 1842 Large Cent. It could of been in a soldiers pocket during the Civil War. Abraham Lincoln could of bought something with it. The amount of things the coin could of seen and the amount of people to handle the coin is incredible.

Its a great way for storage. Those "cases" are called 2X2's. If you buy a whole box of 2X2's you can also use the box to store them.  :tu:

Dang, well I just took a look at her stamps, it's one big binder but it's all some 22 karat replica setup, yet theirs an envelope full of stamps, some newer, but some old, but I don't think anything of value, that's more of memories for her.. Yet the coins got my attention, and she said if I wanted I could maybe start up something, like what you did, I like that.. The thing that's got my wife thinking is, everything that she got is not that exspencive, yet her sister ended up selling hers and bought her one kid a new laptop for college, and her other two not cheap stuff, let alone just got a very nice car! Kinda makes you  especially since she had to send us everything..

Yeah huh, and I'm guessing those fit in those binders, cause those pages are kinda cheap too, something like $5 for ten pages, that would fit a good amount.

Awesome, Chako! I always admire it when people put lots of effort into collecting, organizing and taking care of something for years :tu:

That is amazing if you think of it, the oldest one well two that I have are those two eagle cents, the 1857-58, before yesterday the oldest one I've ever seen was a wheat penny, thus why I always liked them and always tried to collect as many as I could, it sucks that I lost mine, I think I had at least six rolls.

Chako, you have some great collections. How on earth you have markka that old from Finland?

I have small collection of coins myself. Mostly older Finnish coins. Nowdays it comes to euro coins. Couple really rare ones. Mostly from circulation.

When i was kid, we had pouch of different countries coins, wich i was gifted recently.

let's hope whoever inherits them after us will value and like them just as much. or at least not throw them away. imagine they're just as valuable and interesting to people one day as the old Romans' or other cultures' now are for us. we'll have been a part of history, people may even think we've been rich :D

And they will even fit those Eisenhower dollars? Those things are huge, let alone heavy! But I think I might have to do some looking into those 2x2s and binder with those pages, that would be nice, would definetly make it easy to sort out and see what mint it came from, just mark the cardboard rather then squinting every time, lol..

Yes they have dollar 2X2's. You have to buy 2X2's for specific sizes. So for the Eisenhower's you would buy the 2X2's to fit that. You would not want to use the same 2X2 on a cent though as it would not hold it secure. You could use a nickle 2X2 for a cent though. They have 2X2's for every size and you would want to buy the correct size for each coin you plan on putting in them.

Scroll down until you see the cardboard 2X2's and it will make sense.

Man you guys made me pull out the old coin collection!  I haven't even looked at my stuff for about a year, and the last time I added to it was well before that.  I happen to really like Wheat cents, Kennedy Half dollars, Ike silver dollars, the Bicentennial coins, and Mercury dimes(of course).  I have a handful of Buffalo nickels too.  Here's what I currently have kicking around in sleeves

1971 S Kennedy Half dollar
2000 P Kennedy Half dollar
1943 Mercury dime (pocketworn) no mintmark(philly mint)  This one was a gift from Jerseydevil!
1943 Steel cent P
1943 Steel cent D

I have a few other steel cents, and 7 Wheat pennies from 1938-56.  I have half a dozen other half dollars, a few more silver dollars, and 15 or so Bicentennial quarters.  I love pulling these out of circulation, it's  fun since they are pretty common.  I don't have any coins that are worth much, but I do enjoy collecting them.  Very rarely I have bought a lot on ebay or a single if it's cheap.

Crow, I have no idea where I came across it. I may have purchased it from a coin dealer ages ago, or sometimes, I find foreign coinage in my pocket change.

Here is a photo of the coin.

Me and the little guy just dumped the change jar out and went through it. Amazingly not one wheat penny, yet on the other hand found a bunch of other stuff, the little guy got a kick out of the state quarters, but I could care less, another thing that Cought his attention were the shield pennies, so he kinda started his own collection of them, but something that Cought my attention were those other pennies, ones with the other backing..

Sounds like you need to get some coin books to fill. Simply doing the years you can find in everyday change is fun and rewarding once you complete a full book.  :tu:

:tu:   One of my favorites!!  It'd be nice to find one in change sometime too.  I have found all my wheat cents, loose steel cents, bicentennial quarters, and one bicentennial half dollar in my change.

I'm really an amateur collector, I have focused on the lincoln penny most of my life, I am only now starting to round out the collection of wheat cents.  I don't have any duplicates yet.

when I was a kid,  I would go to this book store every week.  not for books,  but they sold rolls of wheat pennies for $0.75 each.
these were not just 50s pennies,  I got steel cents, indian head pennies, and even a few flying eagle pennies (date worn completly off)
but for a 7th grader,  this was heaven for me.
If I can help, let me know
