Save a Life, Surrender your Knife

As an American, this just boggles my mind.  I suppose it's all what culture you are immersed in.  I'm sure some Europeans are boggled by American's demands to be able to own all sorts of firearms.

You can't just generalise America as a whole.... I'm sure people will have different opinions if they've grown up in big city's with gang culture, compared to rural communities.

I have a knife on me almost all the time, but I don't like it when people say they carry a knife for 'protection', I carry a knife because it's a tool.

I don't think that's because of what country I was born in, and I've lived/worked all over the world including North America, it has more to do with me being a country boy.

In my opinion, that attitude doesn't do a lot for your cause.

Sounds like you're threatening violence, which when the topic is gun control...

I agree. I usually have a knife of some sort - for a long time a Huntsman SAK - on me,but never considered it a weapon.

That is fine.
If gun control folks like to have a meaningful conversation, I am all ears.
If they want to come take my freedom away with force, they shall be resisted.

Even then I'd suggest responding with violence probably won't do too much for your cause.

But I agree, meaningful discussion is hugely important.

Personally, I like guns and the few times I've been shooting I've had a great time - but I'd never go to the shops with a handgun on me or anything.

More times than you could ever count. Cutting people out of seat belts in crashed cars is just one example.

I always think of this when thinking about a knife saving a life. Turns out it was a Spyderco Caly 3.5.

If you don't want to watch the news video a man saved his child from a mountain lion that crept up and attacked his son. It was latched onto the kids face and the man pulled out his Spyderco and stabbed it in the chest until it let go.

I think some contest is required here. But I saw a report a while back (year, year and a half maybe?). Not recalling the details too well anymore but it was about stab-resistant clothing (mainly T-shirts and backpacks) and how the sales of these kind of products have soared as a consequence of the rising number of stab-victims (many of them quite random, e.g. as Gang-initiation you stab a stranger).
Point is, if people worry so much that they buy stab-proof clothing, then something has to be done.

PRO-GROUP
The knife makers still promote the "tacticool"-look, selling us knifes as weapons. Instead of putting emphasis on function as a tool, hell it would be better if they promoted knifes as fashion accessory. And to get back to your statements. Yes I agree but why are most knifes black or camouflage?
So I would say, that the pro-knife group is more or less mocking the fears of the anti-knife group.

ANTI-GROUP
In come the anti-knife group. Unlike the pro knife group they actually take this topic serious, they invest a lot of time and energy into this. They have empathy on their side, rallying behind victims and the families of victims. They show us those extra large, extra tacticool knifes which even pro-knife people like me find unnecessary.
The anti knife group will push for a complete ban of knifes. Of course they will, its a negotiation, you always ask for more at the beginning. But if the pro-knife group does not change in their thinking, they might get all.

It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

I think this is the wrong forum for the discussion. It will not be solved on Multitool.org and is likely to cause more harm than good.

I have an opinion but I choose to keep it to myself lest it collide needlessly with anyone elses.

I was happy when the thread died down.

Lets all go back to liking the alox colours etc etc

I thought we avoided topics like this lol

Anyway, I have never considered the sorts of knives we deal with here as weapons - which makes it difficult when they are considered as weapons.

Those links are the fruit of just a quick search on the net. Note the dates.

I've been tempted to crack some skulls a few times but I let it go because none of those imbeciles came close enough (which doesn't mean they weren't annoying or painful to watch). Being on holidays and being drunk doesn't grant one the right to do as one pleases nor does it provide immunity.

The article from the first link talks about a Brit that got stabbed by fellow Brits while on vacation in Greece. If people tend to get so brutally wasted at home as well, there's definitely a reason to ban knives. Doing so might help save a few lives...

Sometime I carry a weaponize folder just to exercise my legal rights, I don't see nothing wrong with that.

I recently heard about a violent assault, resulting in death.

Someone was attacked with a large cobblestone.

I think this has to end.

I'm starting a new campaign:

"Be good to the bone, surrender your stone."

I'm trying to get people to hand over to authorities every stone, rock, boulder, pebble they find so we can end this senseless violence.

Please, spread the word!

Toghether, we can stop the madness!

Sometime I carry a weaponize folder just to exercise my legal rights, I don't see nothing wrong with that.

A couple years back, George Voulgarakis, Greece's Minister of Maritime Affairs and Islands at the time, made quite the erudite statement that "what's legal is moral" in regard to tax dodging. http://www.athenswire.com/greece-getting-tough-on-corrupt-politicians-experts/

My reaction to that statement was, "Right. And if the law said I should lapidate Voulgarakis to death wherever I saw him, that would be OK with him, then".

For the sake of discussion, let's say there's a law allowing me to hurl stones at Kampfer at will. Is this a good law, should I obey such a law, I wonder.
