The Precious

http://m.bidorbuy.co.za/item/170712480/SWISS_ARMY_KNIFE_NEVER_USED_ORIGINAL.html

Am I the only one who ends up buying things from fuzzy photos and buyers that don't answer questions?

I pulled the trigger on this because I think I see a black scissor spring, an aluminium tweezer head and a blank reverse tang. Making this a much needed addition to my collection of shelf queen champions.

Tell me I have found the precious.

I am going to be so annoyed with myself if it arrives and is the same as the 2 early 80s ones I already have.

SAKGuy's image above is the only picture I see of the knife, so I don't see a blank reverse tang stamp. Scissor spring might be black, might be lighting on a late 70s silver spring. From just this picture I'd guess that this was an early 80s model - 80s style scissors with the larger spring, stainless steel inlay, plastic tweezer and Officier Suisse rear tang stamp. Honestly though, without better pictures or the actual knife there's no real way to be sure. It's definitely a pre-85 model.

Are you looking for a specific Champion version, the earliest version with the mag layer, or just trying to collect the different permutations of this model?

Permutations.

I already have several.

Fingers crossed. The rear of the tang looks clear.

Looks just like a regular pre-2005 Ranger to me. Sorry to burst bubble, if any. You may still hope until it will arrive that it has black springs, liners, etc.

Still a very nice SAK. So:  :climber: no matter even if you will get a 3rd of the same, enjoy!

Its a Champion. The Ranger has no fishscaler or mag layer.

I will just have to wait and see.

So the permutation you're looking for - blank rear tang, 2.4mm main blade, mid 70s style scissors - I actually have in my collection. I just looked it and some other variants with the mid 70s style scissors (i.e. with the black spring) and all of them had the scissor screw staked. My 1980s Champions knives with the larger spring do NOT have the screw staked. The picture above appears to show a staked screw so... you might be on to something.

I think it is plastic tweezers head 99%. What is it with black spring, never seen that before.

Nicest early 80s Champion I have ever seen.
