Old knife brought back to life
on: July 05, 2015, 05:21:24 PM
I found this rusty old thing at a flea market.

At first I thought it was a old Mora, and so did the seller. But a few hours in cola and some steel wool later this tekst emerged:

It says: BKnudsen Ilen Trondhjem.
I had never heard of that company before, but thanks to the wonders of internet, I managed to find some info:
It was started by Bård Knudsen a second generation knife maker, in 1892 at Ila in Trondheim, Norway. He was apparently a friend of Erik Frost, the founder of Frosts in Mora, and he sendt his son to Frost to learn.
He came back with new machines and a few former Frosts workers to modernise production. Wich probably explaines why I thought the knife was a Mora.
According to the article I found the quality of BKnudsens knives was not as consistent as Frosts though, and in 1960 or 61 the company closed down. So this knife must be atleast 54 years old...

The tip was broken, so I had to reprofile the blade and drop the point a little.
It took a nice edge.

Now I need to make a sheath for it, and maybe repaint the handle, and it will become a nice user.

Ps. If it looks like it has been sharpened by an idiot, you are quite right ;)

How did I miss this!!!  Excellent job Grathr!!! :2tu:

What size is it? It looks like a Classic #2 size. Does it have a full length tang?

That is a wonderful find!!!!!

Thanks! :salute:

My leathercrafting skills are poor at best.

And I forgot to answer the other question. The tang goes all the way through and is hammered on the top.

Seems to be quite an old knife.
If I need to pick some good EDC tools.
Then I would take my love leatherman multi tool wave and a flash light. Other are just a waste !!!
