Thoughts on search advantage
on: December 07, 2019, 02:22:25 AM
There is a search engine I won't name but you enter Leatherman and it will pull up people's mistaken entries in Ebay. The misspelled entries usually sit idle with no bids due to spelling errors in the title. Instead of Zippo they spelled it Zipoo, Zipo, Zipppo  in the title and such.

Question is - Is it fair game or is it dishonest bidding due to grammatical errors in listing?

I would probably call it fair game.
Still a case of buyer beware though.
Know of a guy on a local site that deliberately misspells and takes fuzzy pics of fake sebenzas and benchmades etc.
Watched more than a few people bid war over his rubbish thinking they were getting a deal.

Can be difficult to inform people when they think they are already right.

: :iagree:  It's often done intentionally to avoid copyright issues. But sometimes, misspellings, fuzzy photos, and the like have actually helped me get some decent deals.

Fair game, I say.

First, the seller can set the starting price for the listing, and may be able to also set a reserve price.  This allows a seller to set a minimum price for which they are willing to part with the item.  If a seller chooses to set a low starting price and or no reserve to try to drum up more interest, that is the seller's decision.

Second, if the listing contains spelling errors, or the pictures are poor, or etc., and the seller makes less money on a listing as a result than they might have if the listing were better done, who can they really blame but themselves?
