Oh better get mine in before Chako shows up and puts it to shame... ;)

I have a Harbor Freight version of a machinist's tool chest (there are some others here with higher quality versions).  And since this is my 1000th post, I figured a collection shot was a good choice :)

Also, there is a somewhat related thread with some other examples, but knowing this group, their collections have grown since then as well ;)

I use a variety of plastic trays, most typically the Infinite Divider trays from the Container Store (top two). They're flexible, stackable, and easily allow for an expanding collection.

My girlfriend and I were having a problem with all our SAKs and MTs and other trinkets laying around, so we made a pair of hook racks to hold them all. The top row, and the Opinel and Harvester in the center are mine. The bottom row is hers. This is hanging right by the door, so we can grab our keys and other EDC of choice on the way out the door.

So the question is, who has a nicer rack, me or my girlfriend?

That's what I'm using at the moment. Seams to work okay but I am interested in finding a more compact draw option

Honestly, I just keep mine in little ziplocs in a cardboard box.  I should probably upgrade this system so they don't accidentally get thrown away one day.

My users are stored in drawers or the appropriate pack/bag (based on type of usage, eg, sailing, camping, BOB, day hikes) or the glove compartment of a vehicle. Pretty easy to grab and go.

My "donors" and/or project knives are in the workshop in separate boxes (91mm, 84mm, 58mm, MTs) if whole or in segmented plastic containers if taken apart.

My keepers live in their boxes (if original) or bubblewrap inside a larger box; one for Bucks and bigger knives/tools, and one for SAKs.

It's about $80 from Harbor Freight.  The quality is pretty good, but it's noteably different from the more expensive Gerstner chests.  Sloppily joints, lots of play in the drawers.  But it's solid and does this job well, and after paying for the contents, it was all I could afford ;)  Someday I'll upgrade, or try to build something myself.

Hahaga I will be sure to take some pics. But I'm torn between taking the time to make one and just buying one. I have some tasmanian oak left over from work that I could use but I don't think I have the time to make it at the moment

I'll let you know what I decide in the end

Sounds good!  Hand built from Tasmanian oak sounds awesome, but I definitely understand the time issues.  Good luck either way.

I use tool chest and cabinets. I got mine from SPG International...their Classic line because it maximized space with plenty of shallow drawers.

I use an IKEA display case for some of the collection. The overflows go into shallow plastic tubs.

That also looks like a great option I might look into them aswell, might get one of them while I take my time to make a wooden one and then can't keep tools in the metal chest after

Well, you guys are pretty serious.

I have 3/4 of my collection in a Rubbermaid tub in the basement. All my retired/sentimental ones are in here.

The other 1/4, which I plan to use more, I have in a cardboard candy box under my nightstand.
