The mini Sharpie
on: July 24, 2015, 11:27:54 PM
Mods:  this maybe should have gone in the Gadget forum, so feel free to move it if the urge strikes.

Guys and chicks, one of my daily carry items for several years has been a mini Sharpie.  They weigh only 0.13 oz. (crazy but true), and are one of my most-used EDC items.  It lives in my left front pocket with keys, SAK, 1xAAA light and whatever else I stick in there.  Its one of those things that you don't realize you "need" until you start to carry it.

But there is a secret to finding them.  In the U.S. they are only released as "back to school" items, so you will find them in August as "end cap" (stand alone, end of the aisle) items at Office Depot and other vendors.  When "back to school" time ends, the mini Sharpies disappear from stores until next year.  So now is the time to find them.  At about $1.00 each, I bought 10x last year as they are easy to lose, but I still have several left.

They have a swivel clip attachment that I remove and discard, but you can clip them to key rings or anything else if you are into it.

Link.

Lowes carries mini markers year round.  I actually like them better than Shapries.

Ich mag Schwan oder Staedtler  ;)

HOWEVER, I did end up with a Sharpie in my organiser, and it gets plenty of play when I need a marker to hand and I have no complaints, so maybe, MAYBE I would consider buying a few.

I am not sure about a keyring one though, I am sure the lid would come off and I would have a pocket full of ink.

For those so inclined (and with more money than Scrooge McDuck) try a few Paint Markers. I keep one in my pack for when I need to mark / label stuff and would be slightly miffed if it faded / washed / rubbed off.

I find mini-sharpies in four packs year round at Wal-Mart in the pen aisle.  I tend to carry a full-size twin-tip, but I keep mini-sharpies around for various uses.

Leatherman Skeletool   Led Lenser P3 AFS P
Leatherman Style CS    "Fauxton"
Sharpie Twin Tip           Bic Mini

I have one as well, only mine is a Stanley Tools one, bought at a hardware store.

It lives on my work lanyard with my ID and an Inka pen.

When a mini-sharpie runs out, keep the triangular metal jump ring from the quick-disconnect cap.

They are a great size to use with MM clips and the like.  I once used one to attach a tritium vial to an MM clip.

They also make as a good holder for extra bits, T&T, leatherman bit extender. Just pull out the ink cartridge when it's done.

The mini sharpie is my favorite. I had a custom holder made for it.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?
