Was tool new? Did it have oil on tools?

It is an old - or not new - Wave, with little or no mileage on it.  No oil to speak of.  I attribute the rust to brother hiraethus's fine explanation above.

I'm just pleased that the Wave cleaned up nicely after a year underground, and did not have to be trashed.  And I like the rust stains and pitting. Sorta looks cool.

Gives it a nice patina

Wow. Great sacrifice and tale. We've now seen two tools come back to life. I am almost sure the sheath takes the brunt of the pain. Either way, thanks for the ride PN :tu:

Just seeing the results now. I am quite surprised how well the Wave fared. Thank you again for sacrificing your tool and a year of your time (kind of). The real question is whats next......  >:D

I say we get a few good men to donate some stuff and throw it all in a hole to see how a bunch of different things made of very different materials fair. I may have a maglite to donate to the cause if it happens.
