Thanks for the kinds words guys.I started pinstriping when I was 11 years old and did my first paying job when I was 13. I've always considered it a,"profitable hobby" rather than a business although that is what it has been for the past 25 years.
A couple of notes about the bikes. The Hayabusa has been drastically modified to put out over 350 hp(although why ANYONE would want to is beyond me). When I did it I had to borrow a special stand to sit it on as my regular motorcycle jack would have crushed the underside fairing. I was amazed how much the bike weighed as well. There was a GVW sticker on the frame that read 943 lbs! That is heavier than any Harley I've done and it felt it too when I tried to move it.
Outside of the town I live in there is a straight stretch of road that runs almost 9 miles without so much as a gradual curve in it. He had the bike out there and got it up to over 200 mph for a short period. I thought he was crazy as there is a lot of wildlife(deer mostly)that cross the road as well as slow moving farm equipment. At over 300 ft. per second that doesn't give you much time to react.
The second note is about the 1928 Harley JD. After I had lettered and striped it my wife and I went on vacation to Massachusetts. While we were out there I got a call from the owner asking if I could add some lettering before the race.Luckily I was going to be home before that and told him I would.
When I went up to his shop he asked me to put his crew chief's name on the front fender. He was supposed to go on the tour but unexpectedly passed away. While I was lettering the bike he showed me a beat up old Harley cigarette lighter and told me the story behind it. Seems it belonged to Grady(his crew chief and mentor)who was a chain smoker and that was what had eventually killed him. The lighter's chrome covering was worn away due to being constantly flipped open. Well Grady had been cremated and they had taken the inside of the lighter out and put some of Grady's ashes in it and the lighter was to be carried in his pocket for the entire trip. So Grady did make it after all.
Thought you might enjoy the story. Here ia a pic of the lettering and the lighter.

The only vehicle i own and use daily is this little Suzuki tu250x. I love it so much. And this bike is one of the reasons for me to carry a multitool every day.  :multi:

That's the bike I did my first learner's course on. Now I own a bigger thumper  :tu:

Ray,

The Harley is an absolute beauty. And the Zippo story fantastic!!! As I am getting older I am starting to appreciate the sentimental stories more.

G'Day,

I just returned from a 5 day ride down to the New South Wales Snowy Mountain Region. It must be one of Australia's best areas for riding motorcycles. There are fantastic winding bitumen roads and enough dirt roads to keep one amused for months.

We did a combination of road and dirt. The road trips were planned and one of the dirt roads. Sadly we never got to do that one. The night before we were going to do it, Cooma copped a massive rain storm and most of the creek crossings were very slippery. My riding buddy on the R1200 GSA had road tires on and was very reluctant to do any mud. I tried the new Michelin Anakee Adventure tire and I must admit that I am very impressed with it. It handled hours of dirt, road and rain with ease. A total of 2,100 kms for the five days.

I recently bought a R1150 GSA to replace my R1200 GSA. The R1200 has ticked over 105,000 kms in the 4 years that I had it. Intermittent problems and a big trip to the centre of Oz later this year prompted the decision. I used to own this bike three years ago. The gentleman who bought it from me was going to do a BMW Safari on it, but ended up renting a bike. He only added 3,500 kms in the three years of ownership. It now has 72,500 after the Snowy trip. I think it is one, if not the best GSA ever built. Lots of character and surprisingly nimble, for a bike that is 17 years old and 30kw less than the R1200. I will not make the same mistake again and sell it...

All in all a fantastic 5 days away. Our respective families joined us for the weekend on the farm before we all returned to Sydney on Sunday. Kudos to my son for spending 5 hours on the back of a "new bike". 2 of which was in pouring rain. Good rain gear, gloves and boots made the trip a pleasure. Visibility was the only issue, and IDIOTS driving without lights on the motorway!!!  >:(. You go Boy!!!

Now for some pics.

Cheers, Pete

One day Mate, one day!!!

I don't mind the rain. It keeps one focused. And besides, this time is washed most of the previous day's crap off too. A blessing in disguise. I cleaned the rest off this morning, took it for a quick ride and parked it ready for the next trip.

Cheers

Thanks mate,
It’s in my to do bucket list, with my medical I’ve lost my license and probably will never get it back, so if I ever do get to ride one it will be because of some nice guy with one of those tall bars on the back with me strapped to it, :dd:

A week ago, I put away the shovel that I keep by my main door, and switched around the pair to snow blowers for the motorbike in the garage. I forgot to take the battery in when I stored it away for the cold, and thus it stayed out in the unheated garage all winter. That changed when I unhooked the battery and placed it on my smart battery charger in the kitchen earlier this week. Well today, it being somewhat nice (still cold in the mornings - averaging 2 degrees Celsius), I installed the battery and the bike started up like a trooper. So if tomorrow is somewhat nice, I will be taking it out for its first test spin after being stored since October.  :woohoo:

I haven’t been able to use my bike for the last two years because of my injuries
But this year I am definitely going out on my bike  :woohoo:
Got the insurance paid for and today I bought myself
a new pair of Alpinestars leather motorbike trousers
As my old pair needed replacing
Now all I need to do is get a mot test done and get some road tax
And I will be ready for this summer to get back on the road  :D

I can’t wait  :ahhh

For various reasons, I haven't gotten out on the bike yet. But the weather is looking to improve this week and I'm going to get out on the bike for sure!   :tu:

I think I'm going to try a burger run. There is a classic burger joint in Butte, Montana. It's an 80 minute ride down there through some winding mountain roads. Perfect distance for a nice ride, good burger, and nice return ride.

Nice motorcycle. Hope you can get back on it with little to no issues...and start to enjoy the ride. I love the feeling of floating down the road enjoying massive amounts of fresh air. Nothing like it.

Today, I finally installed highway pegs that I ordered online. I bought another set last October but did not like those.

Yes. The old ones had extension arms that didn't work out for me. These should work a lot better. Just got to take it down the road and do some minor adjustments at a later date.  :tu:

Some very nice bikes guys. Seems like the improving weather is bringing them 2-wheels out.

I just got back from a two week run to South Australia. For the first time in a few years Lake Eyre (Largest Salt Lake in Oz) filled up from rains in Queensland and Far North New South Wales. And we wanted to see that. We did a flight over the lake and that was absolutely spectacular!!!

Lots of fun was had. Stuck in mud, one "off" and lots of banter, beer and good food. All up I did 5,080 kms for the two weeks. Four bikes started out of Sydney, 3 BMW GS's and a Triumf 800. The following week the Triumf left us and another BMW, R65LS joined in. I took far to many pics to post here, but will show some of the best ones.

Cheers

Pete
