The two 111mm I had have bad blade lock up.

Round tip on OHO blade, why?

I love the 130mm, way better IMO.

Some of mine (side-lock, not liner-lock) have this issue, too. Seems it's a feature, not a defect...

 :-\

I remember reading that little bit of play was in the design. I have never had one fail.
I do understand, but the two I had, if I swing it hard I could feel the blade moves up n down while I swing it... very annoying.

Yeah, that's too much. :tu:

Not a fan of the OHO blade.  It makes for an uncomfortable grip and the lock doesn't easily facilitate OHC.  It also would have been nice to have a locking saw.  In general, they are easily pocketable and the scales are great.  I keep this guy in the truck for general ranch use.  The blade itself is awesome.

Here's something I just figured out:

As far as inline drivers are concerned, the small driver in a Hercules/Workchamp is just the same size as the one found in the Explorer (and Swisschamp).

It's the long, fine driver that's unique to the 111mm series that made me pick the Hercules versus say a Handyman/Ranger/Deluxe Tinker.....

Locksmith came in yesterday and a another Herc came today. Got some 111mm cases today as well.

Picked up the Herc after I checked the Vic site and it wasn't listed anymore.

I'm really close to going with a oh Trekker as my edc. Any reason not to?

So did you? Serrared or non-serrated? Colour? How are you finding it?

Pretty close to it. Probably going to go with the green soldier model serrated.

111 mm SAKs. Not really my tea. They somehow seemed to miss the target. At least for me. They are just too big for pocket carry. I like the idea of SAK for carrying a small, pocketable toolset that can easily been carried on a daily basis. I have several 111mm SAKs and I use them, but not as EDC. I keep them in my toolbox in the drawers or the car, but not on my person.

Maybe I´m just one of those weird Recruit-Lovers ....

Love the Solder/OHT. The only thing I didn't like was the chisel grind. Easy fix.

I've recently picked up an Outrider and Rucksack but I don't think I'm going to hold onto them.  I could see their appeal for being included in your pack for serious work, but as pocket knives they don't really fit my needs.  I'm still waiting to be converted...

Well,....I agree with everything that you all like them for. I have German and Italian Genes. They fit my German, 6' frame and hand, and the've got....Style. IMHO.

The serrated blade is long enough to cut food, and foam. They have about the right tools on them for me. Well, almost! I think they'd make a nice frame base for my "Dream Machine", and they fit my "pinch" or my pinch is easy to construct for my OHT 3 layer. The one hand opening ain't bad either. They remind me of my Spyderco's, which have all gotten away from me. There are a few more tools I'd like on one, so Thale O'Mille, what do you want for your Outrider? email me @ Oclip@live.com. I would also like to find a Malay ATM SAk (111mm), if anyone knows of one. And one other thing I like;  I think I can refit them with a Snap On #2 Phillips tip, and cut the scale in a straignt line, to the Tweezer hole, and put a longer, stronger tip in one. Yes, I'll change the pin, and add another side spring layer, so I can lock open, the T-driver Snap On Phillips tip (and the saw).  Yet to be seen. Snap on Phillips and all their screwdrivers in general, are the best I've ever used as a professional mechanic, when I was one.
But mostly,  They got.....Style.....:salute:    Thanx, Oclip

The 85mm Delemont and 91mm standard Vics are superb knives, and their size can be a valued characteristic, especially the compactness of the Delemont Evolution, but they have limitations driven by their size. The 111mm offers ability to take on tasks not possible with the smaller blades and tools. Main blade locking is the common theme, which is only found on some of the Delemont Evolution (notably missing from the Evolution 23; wishing there were a S23 variant). They also liner lock the bottle opener with its large flat-tip screwdriver, a feature only found on the Delemont with its spring lock. Some offer one-hand deployment which can be very useful when you don't want to let go of something to deploy the cutting blade. The grips are ergonomic and textured, with dual density now offered on many. The Swiss, German and Dutch armies use their own variants of them because of their size and robustness. There's a lot to like about the 111mm . . .

When the going gets tough, the tough get going, and when the going gets tougher, the 111mm keep going!

I have a Soldier and a Hercules and both are solid members of the club. The only thing I am missing are pliers. Would a Leatherman Kick be a solid complement to the Soldier or Hercules (depending on which I carry)?

It could,  although if you are just looking for pliers, id go with a Juice S2. Delivers real pliera in a very compact package. The Pocket PowerPlier also has pretty awesome pliers, in a thinner package than a Kick.

I guess the special thing about 111mm can be summarized in the Locksmith:

  • Longer, locking blade
  • Longer saw
  • Longer file / metal saw

in a package that's still feasible enough to carry in the front pocket (versus 130mm.  I mean ever tried to pocket one of those?)
