Ok this is closed, I will post the solution later >:D

I think Zoids did a good summary of the clues, but he kinda missed the last one:
"There is something odd about the container (the cloth bag)"

The odd thing is that it is SEWN SHUT!
Why would they do that? Should't you have easy access to an emergency kit?
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

To use it as a pillow maybe? Or as a club?  :D

Honestly I think it's either me or Zoidy that got it right... most likely the lobster-boy is right as he gave it lots of thought and I have poop luck nowadays - my mind is elsewhere.

I totally blanked on that last clue. My brain just hasn't been coping the last few days. I will just have to laugh about it later.

Ah, well I figured that the knife/cutting implement wasn't supposed to be in the emergency kit, it would already be in the main pack or on the person, so ready to cut it open if needed, and you'd already stated it was sewn shut, so I didn't think that was what made it odd...

Will be interesting to see the correct answer!

At least we know now, why it was sewn shut... else it would all be eaten long before an emergency.
My guess is that this was the aftermath of the 2nd world war.

Switzerland heavily relies on import (before 2nd WW about half the food was imported), so during the war food got sparse.
We had the "Plan Wahlen" (Wahlen was a Bundesrat) in place and they started to grow food on every bit of land, including soccer fields (considering that most men were guarding the borders, women had to work overtime :salute:).
During that time the cultivable land was doubled in size. This was a big symbol for Switzerland's will to resist the axis-powers and a huge moral boost for the Swiss soldiers. Ultimately, food was tight but there was enough to survive.

Just a cloth bag, but it was sewn shut so you would not eat it, before an emergency.
