10,000th post and giveaway announcement
on: August 04, 2015, 09:52:27 PM
Yes folks, you've been putting up with my inane drivel with a light spattering of enlightened wisdom for 10,000 posts now. That's got to be worth a prize in itself  :D

To mark this landmark I'm going to be having a giveaway, it only seems fair  :P this is going to be a slightly unusual format (well, it is me, what did you expect) in that I have absolutely no idea as yet as to what the prize might be.... or should I say, I have absolutely no idea what YOU are going to encourage me to part with.

Confused yet, or do I need to try harder?  >:D

Here's the score. I've had a change of circumstances lately, and as a result I need to get rid of most of my posessions, tools, furniture, everything. I need to do this to raise funds, but also to become more "portable". I have no idea where I'll be living a few weeks from now (ain't life just one big adventure) and I need to turn my worldly goods into funds, and get myself ready to be easily relocatable. The challenge I'm setting you guys, is to help me choose what to KEEP!

Over the next few days, I'm going to start posting a whole load of tools on here, and you're job will be to suggest what I should hang onto and why. I will not be bound by your suggestions (no change there then  :P), but your suggestions and assistance will book you a spot in the giveaway. The winner will be chosen via whatever method seems appropriate at the time, as will the prize  My excuse here is that I am currently under the influence of several gin and tonics and can't be arsed coming up with anything coherent :neener:

The main rules are as follows: (he says, making it up as he goes)

Over 18's only
Minimum 100 posts
Lists are prohibited! Anyone starting a list or joining a list will be automatically disqualified!  >:D

Everything clear? Ok then. I'll give you chance to do the mandatory and meaningless congratulations, and give myself chance to sober up  watch this thread for updates of the "nominees for disposal", and hopefully my future posts in this thread will be slightly less bonkers than this one......

Congratz on 10k, I'm not sure about all of them but at least one of your post (hey that's 0.01% :tu:) I found extremely insightful and has changed a lot on how I look at MT's. I'm of course talking about the comparison on handle opening :salute:

I hope your life-circumstances are at least to some degree voluntary and wish you all the best wherever you go and wherever you will end up.

Thanks guys

First category - UK legal tools and mods:
I've not had time to take current pics, so these are old ones previously posted on MTO before  :)

SOG Toolclip

Roundhouse Kick Mod

Gerber MP426 Mod

Leatherman KF4

Knifeless Rebar Mod with CC Pliers

.... there's more than I thought.....  :ahhh

Knifeless "Turbo Diesel" Mod
Juice CS4
Juice XE6
Gerber Balance (currently MIA)
Minitool
PST
PST II
PST III Mod

Sideclip
Knifeless Gerber Octane
Wichard Tool

..... there might even be more :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

I think initially getting these down to THREE tools would be sensible, so help me pick three otf these to keep (don't forget, more categories to follow)

Al's Top Pick:
The one which will definitely be stopping is the Fuse-ilier mod, as too much cost and effort went into producing that, and it would be a nightmer to try and recreate

I think you should keep the Spyderco UKPK - a great knife that's legal for you guys, the MiniTool - very useful and hard to replace, the knifeless Rebar - you need a full-size MT and one of the Juices, whichever is your fave.

Ho many suggestions can we make? If just one, then the UKPK.  :D

Make as many suggestions as you want mate

I've not got to the folders yet, that's a separate category  :) I've got many OHO UK legal clipped folders, plus oodles of traditional slippies, and a few locking folders too  :D that's another area I need to cut back on, and pics will be up soon  :tu:

First off, got any more pictures of the Wichard tool? That looks interesting and is new to me...

It has to be the Knifeless TurboDiesel (Although its not an MP600), which means the Rebar has to go...
The PST III is awesome with the long Phillips and the large scissors, so keep that in the small category, which means all the other PSTs, the Mini* and Juices have to go.

So, from this group, I would keep the TurboDiesel and the PST III.
I know nothing about the Wichard tool so I cannot give advice either way so you should sell it to me, to help me become a more educated man :pok: :D.

*Not mini enough for the limited tool load... has to go!

That is one approach, but generally the more vintage/rare stuff has better resale value, while you can only sell a new Wave at a loss. So, if you are not too attached to the vintage stuff (its just...er, stuff too :P) I would rather sell the collectibles and keep the users. But then I'm not much of a collector.

Congrats on the 5-digit milestone!

  :drink:

I'm the wrong person to ask what to keep. My usual answer is "everything!"...

The orange group looks real good. As do the folders (I'm more of a knife than MT guy).

Good luck in managing to get rid of stuff you like.
