SAK Versus Ikea!
on: August 07, 2015, 10:21:58 PM
Had the day off today and the wife has been bugging me to put together a drawer chest for the guest bedroom for a while now. So decided I could have a little fun and take this opportunity to see if I can put together this drawer chest just using only a SAK.

Got all the packaging cut open. Step one a cinch for a SAK.

Attaching the drawer tracking.

Used the back end of the SAK as a hammer to put around 30 dowels in place.

Removed the lanyard it was driving me crazy getting in the way constantly when I had to put in around 40 screws.

Back end of the SAK used again as a hammer.

Used the flat head screwdriver to lock the pieces together.

About half way done here and decided

to give my hand cramp a break and have some lunch.

These longer screws took longer but the head gave no slippage.

Took a lot longer then using the right dedicated tools but it did fine job without any issues.

Nice work!  We're having our 3rd kid and just got an Ikea nearby, so I've been putting together lots of furniture :)  I used a Swisschamp for a nightstand a while ago, but the last day or so, it's been my LM ST300 for a dresser.  It's been a little easier on the hand cramping :)

With a good SAK like that, you could put together an automobile :-)

I once got halfway through assembling an Ikea bedroom set with my Wenger toolchest (to prove a point) before my Dad finally had enough and told me I was an idiot and insisted I use real tools.

Having an inline Phillips is so clutch.

I  when I saw the title of this thread.  A friend works for Ikea in Elizabeth NJ, and was told no personal knives.  A bit of JD Tinker love changed that policy.....
