Nice, I like the pioneer for its compact minimalist approach with the most useful tools. I snagged two black/ red shields from Seitz when they were charging the more reasonable $33 shipped to America!
The Vic webpage says,
Its casing in black anodized aluminum and the red/white cross&shield make a combination that has not been produced very often by Victorinox in the past. Victorinox has transformed this classic into a special collectors item for its fans, without taking away from its functionality. The Pioneer black is one of the many products that Victorinox is turning into something extraordinary.
. I get the feeling it may be limited, but many places like Vic are charging the same price for a black or silver version, which is only logical.
It seems like the cadets are getting more popular than the pioneers... I see a lot of places charging more for a colored cadet than a pioneer, madness! Pioneer is twice the tool!
I've got a few colors now and have to say, if I was to get extras of any, I think the black ones would be my choice.
(Though I do still need classic red pioneer)
