Gummy Bear Spartan -- Why?
on: August 20, 2015, 04:20:26 PM
At a recent auction, I bought a Spartan with Gummy Bear like scales.  Can some one tell what the scale material is called.  And, Why is the new scale material used ?

If you have not seen the new scales yet, the best description I can give you is the scale appears to be a fuzzy translucence.  The scales feel almost rubbery.  Another feature I noticed on the knife is the back scale contains a toothpick AND a ink pen.  See the picture.

Are gummy bears taking over the world? ???

It looks like a worn-out cellidor ruby handle.

Here are some more Translucent colours

Damn.. I suck.. yours is also soft, right? It must be a SoftGrip. Only heard of the Ruby-Red version and the Wabemuster Black.

To my understanding, the material is a regular cellidor with rubber coating sprayed on.

Corwyn,

You nailed it.  Mine is the soft grip on your first picture.  The scales are softer than normal.  And the back scale has  both a toothpick and a ink pen.   Corwyn, you da Man.  I am out.

I'm still after one of those. Bought one on eBay but received a regular Ruby Spartan instead.
You should seriously visit vicfan.com. All the hoopy froods are doing it.

I bought my Spartan with "Transluscent Ruby Plus Soft" scales some years ago. I loved the feeling, so I transfered the scales to a Mountaineer I used to EDC for a while. They are still my favorite cellidor scales.

I have one of those Spartans too. I like the feel of the handles a lot, but I wonder how they will wear over time.
