Got my Rescuetool today
on: August 11, 2008, 10:27:19 PM
Got my black Rescuetool today from Felinevet Tim. I have nothing butt good words too say about him, killer prices and I get it after 7 or 8 days. Love that store.

I have been drooling over a Rescuetool since I saw the video on youtube for the first time 2 months ago, and now I finally got it. Tim just had the black RT, not the one with the luminescent handles, and I’m glad that he just had the black because it looks so much nicer. Not to mention the “hey-cops-I’m-wearing-a-KNIFE” pouch that comes with the luminescent handles. I have only found one outfit that the neon pouch matches, and that’s the uniform the paramedics in Norway use.

Anyhow. This is my first SAK so I don’t have a lot of reference when it comes too other SAK’s. My first thought when I took it out of the box was “thank good it’s a black pouch”. I love the one hand opening blade, butt not that thrilled that it’s partially straight edge and most of it’s serrated, you have a seatbelt cutter that is serrated. The awl is a pain getting out and they should have replaced it with a cork screw.

Nice catch!

Are the serrations and plain edge on the blade arranged that way for a specific reason?

Since you have the big seat belt cutter, I would have thought it more useful to just have a plain edge too. Or if it were a combo blade, to at least have a PE tip instead of PE at the base of the blade?

 Ya gotta think outside the box. The corkscrew is very handy for teasing rope strands, untangling small chain, etc. and a great place to hold the mini-screwdriver. Opening wine is just a plus.

Ok, here are some pics for you SAK & MT crazy people.

There’s not much too say about the RT other than it’s a REALLY nice tool. There is one ting I don’t like on the RT, in fact on the Swisstool also. And that’s the Philips screwdriver, it’s too blunt and that I don’t like. I like the Philips that SOG uses because I can use it on smaller screws.
Rescuetool on the left. SOG Powerlock on the right.

Except for the Philips, the entire tool is a beautiful work of art.
Almost as beautiful as this :D :D

I have a soft spot for the Rescue Tool , one saved my right hand ! The rescue part of the tool is the replacable saw , the belt cutter , and the glass punch . The rest is just for general utility . The design phlisophy of the blade is   predicated on the assumption that field sharpenings are few and far between , and the blade still has to be able to cut when relatively dull. I bought mine mostly for the replacable saw , but have grown to really love the belt cutter. I find it rolls open very easily when pressed against a pocket seam.

Why not we do   :drink:  ::)

You have heard of the tradition of the Gurkha's that every time they unsheath their Kukri's they have to draw blood ( Some Gurkha's knick there fingers to keep up the tradition when they sharpen them or train with them ) . Well its like that with our boat  ::) Except its beer not blood  :D

I have not had to use the RescueTool for any "rescues" or "self-extractions" from my truck.I have used the blades for the regular uses that my Trekker once handled. no complaints. I have tried out the blades on sevral tiedown straps and they seem to zipo right through. The saw works "OK" on wood but only on the back stroke. I had to trim a low lying branch in my driveway and thought I would give it a try.

There is actually another uniform the Rescue Tool sheath goes well with...

DO they still use Ron, or has he been phased out in the drive for "healthy choice" foods?

They still use Ronald McDonald here.  It's nice to know that if McDonalds ever drops Ronald McDonald, he can find new work as a fashion model in Ibach.

For those not familiar with the red and yellow Rescue Tool sheath:
