Spartan Saturday!
on: September 19, 2015, 01:21:51 AM
I'm thinking that the humble Spartan maybe doesn't get the love it deserves. So,from now on,til I get bored,or change my mind,I'm going to carry a Spartan every Saturday.

Who's with me?

I'd be happy to carry a Tourist tomorrow, but there's no way I'm committing to any weekly routines. Life is about variety and adventure, and pocket carry should reflect that. There's enough restrictions in life without me adding new ones  :D

I carry a Pioneer every day, if that counts as a sort of Spartan? :) I tend to see it as my minimum staple, rather than a restriction though.

I don't own a Spartan, I prefer the Camper model for better girth.  :-[

I started out carrying a Spartan as my first SAK many moons ago. However I rapidly discovered that a scissors was one of my most-used tools, and the Spartan vanished from the carry line-up. Instead I carry a Traveler, Super Tinker, or Huntsman; in about that order of popularity.

Bumblebee spartan plus has black scales on reverse. That will be Saturday carry.  Along with a tiny set of pliers.

The other one has deep grooves in the corkscrew and was ridicuously filthy when I got it with brown goop and animal fur everywhere including under the scales

I may pop in now and then with one but I too can't commit to every Saturday.

I don't have a Spartan.

But I do have an ugly old tomato red Elinox Standard (Spartan, without T&T)

Like the others, I'm not sure I want to go without scissors, esp. every Saturday, when I typically need an MT the most.

Jon Ronson has some interesting titbits too!

In answer to your original question, I don't have a Spartan but may be the recipient of a Tourist soon. Does that count? If so, I'll gladly do Spartan Saturday (Spaturday?)

If Victorinox made a Spartan in 84mm i would be all over them, as it is i EDC a small Tinker and have reached the conclusion that a corkscrew has more use than the #2 Phillips screwdriver on the back of the Tinker, after all the point on the can opener will do the job and it is in line.

I carry a Spartan most of the time anyway, so setting some weekly routine for that wouldn't make much sense. Not a lot of people like the Spartan, but there are a few of us. :) I'm with 50ft-trad on the philosophical ramifications of variety in EDC.  :tu:

I like the sound of Spartan Saturday, though.

And I find the nail file better than the small blade so Sportsman is my choice of Spartan 84mm

I carry a Tourist a couple days a week. Find it easier on the pocket than a Spartan. If I carry a 91mm it's usually a Climber.

I'm surprised by just how many folks don't have a Spartan.  That said I didn't have one for quite a while myself so perhaps I should hold judgment. :D  Oddly this rather coincides with me thinking I'd not had my yellow Spartan out for a long time.  Need to change that I think.

I have a bunch but they are all packed away in tubs for fire season. I'll try to snag one of mine to carry next Sat.

I just redid all my knife storage because the wildfires have already started in the surrounding counties.

Ok, I'm set. Found one in that pile that came in last week...wood, almost unused! I'll clean it up and tote it next Sat!!
