I agree, and no batteries to replace or loss of signal either  :like:

Maps. Always "on" 24/7  :tu:

And I'm fairly sure Normandy and the beaches will be where they usually are. Might take in Agincourt and Crecy on the way there too Barry.

I went to some of the British beaches with my Dad when I was a boy but now I'd like to take in the whole thing Barry. Maybe take a Spartan on a road trip too!

Like the old credit card commercial said, "Don't leave home without it."  I might have to do a Spartan carry series of posts soon.  I'm mulling it over.  Best wishes.  G

A Spartan iis (and easily replaceable too) but I have found the alarm clock on my Traveller Lite to be the SAK for a trip away. It's a funny beast but it is both my office clock (well one of them anyway...) and a holiday alarm. The LED torch is laughable  but gets points for sheer novelty.

A red Spartan with a photo of a young woman who has had a bad tomato soup accident.  I can feel for her.  About two winters ago, I sat down at the compooter with a bowl of tomato soup.  I turned the bowl over scalding my hand and painting a side table and door frame.  I found wee spots of tomato soup on things weeks later.  Best wishes.  G

I guess it’s fitting I’m carrying a serrated Spartan (Weekender) on the weekend. Sadly, I’m also at work..

I love this thing so much and am so happy Victorinox decided to start selling production serrated blades on the Spartan models. I put a glasses screwdriver in the corkscrew and my wife makes me lanyards for all my SAKs. The Spartan is just such a fantastic model and I usually keep either a Spartan, Compact, or Electrician as a backup alongside my Swiss Champ (that I always carry).

I agree on the Serrated Spartan as being great! It is one of the best models.  Here is mine... added the small screwdriver and straight pin to mine for increased utility.

That's a fine lanyard there Tuisto.

If only Vic would offer the serrated blade Weekender this side of the pond  :dd:

Nice serrated blade there Mr TJ but that's just making me a wee bit jealous !

Spartan Saturday again.  I need to check my critter camera and see if anything interesting has shown up for snacks.  Might post a photo later.  There was a moose roaming around in the woods above my house a couple of years ago.  Not unusual if I lived in Alaska, maybe.  A little strange for North Carolina.  This one escaped from an exotic animal enclosure in Cherokee and wandered over for a visit.  It was recaptured some way or other.  I am glad I wasn't in on that.  Best wishes.  G

I had to search for the Spartan Saturday thread.  It had almost lost its grip and slid back to page two.  Horrors.  I found cute shiny Spartan hanging out with a man in leather.  Someone acting as Spartan's wingman, I suppose.  Best wishes.  G

That's a nice colour Spartan, Gary! Here's my contribution for today, a Spartan and an XM-24. I guess I'd better get used to the American flag, I'll become a naturalised citizen in about four months, hopefully.

Np Spartan for me today.  I am staying true to the Sportsman Challenge and only using/carrying the Sportsman.   Been true for 27 days, so far.
Wife grabbed one of the other SAKs a few days ago for a roadtrip, I told her it had to stay home.
Most coincidences are carefully planned.

I can remember not posting a photo on Spartan Saturday when I was doing one of the 58mm challenges.  I have since come to the conclusion that taking a photo of a Spartan isn't really using it.  These daily events are mostly just glamor shots, in my view.  Everybody should do what seems right to them.
I have kept up with the Sportsman challenge posts.  Lots of fun.  I think Marlowe did a fine job with setting this challenge up.  Hopefully I can be in some upcoming challenge with the Sportsman challenge participants.  I could be well satisfied by carrying just an 85/84mm every day.  I do however use a saw quite a bit in the summer.  That means a bigger SAK.  Generally the same old 108mm.  Best wishes.  G

You know, I didn't even realise that the point was to actually be carrying the tools on the daily  (insert Victorinox model here) days I thought they were more just to showcase the SAKs -- 'glamour shots' like you put it!

If there are any hard and fast rules for carry and making posts, I don't know them.  Is it good to carry what you are putting on the Friday Fisherman day?  I think it is a good idea.  Sometimes I actually carry what I make a photo of.  I think I put a Tinker in my pocket last Tuesday.  I know I didn't carry a Wenger last Wednesday.
30 day challenges are something I see a little differently.  If I do a Leatherman Chica challenge, then all I carry is the cute little LM in question.  Whoever is running the challenge should state the rules.  Either carry the primary challenge tool and whatever else you might need, or just the primary and that's all.  Some leeway has to be made for necessity.  If you are an auto mechanic, there is no way you can take off work for a month because you can't use your shop tools.  The challenge rules, if not otherwise specified, have devolved into carry the named challenge tool.  Use it for everything and carry it every day.  If you run into the need to use something else, then do it.  Take a photo every day and tell what you did do, or couldn't do.
If the challenge is for something like a 65mm Wenger Whatnot, the idea that you put the thing on your keychain while you carry a Deluxe Tinker, a Leatherman Wave, a pry tool, and a Knipex seems to me not to be a challenge at all.  I think you should make do with the 65mm and only through necessity go fetch another tool.  Others don't agree.
There is a general tendency here for members to 'Over Tool'.  The old backpacker's rule used to be "if you don't use it every day don't carry it".  Is heartless old IMR coming down on the individual who carries three flashlights, glass breaker and seatbelt cutter, bushcraft knife, two Zippos, a fire making kit, and three multis to the office?  No.  If you want to carry a backpack with 25 pounds of toys it doesn't bother me at all.  If you say you need all that stuff, just don't expect me to believe it.
I went a little far afield on that one.  I will keep on posting an occasional photo of something on the daily equipment threads.  Might be carrying it.  Might not.  Challenges are where I will carry the stated tool or tools and that is what I will use.  Period.  I don't feel bound against posting a photo of something at the same time on one of the daily carry or what did you just get threads.
Just me.  Like I said before.  Do as you like.  Best wishes. G
 ;)
