Buying a Wingman in New York
on: September 22, 2015, 12:26:32 AM
Dear all,
Could someone from NY help with advice on buying a Wingman in New York in a brick and mortar store?
Preferably near B&H Photovideo, on 420 9th Ave, New York.
A friend of mine is going there and would buy one for me.
From the reviews I guess it will be my ultimate MT because it seems to have spring action closing and I hate my MTs with loose handles.
Thanks
Eduardo

The Home Depot on 34th and 9th has them for $30. That's 10 blocks from where he'll be, which is close in NYC.  Cheers!

no wingman but it may be good to know that B&H does sell LM  products too, at least in their online shop

Yes, my friend likes to go to BH, but it seems they don't have the Wingman.
I saw a video review and liked the way it closes by spring action, like a Spirit.
MTs are difficult to find here in Brazil and if found, they are too expensive.
I have a new old model Surge and a Wave, but find them too cumbersome and big, and the Surge handles don´t stay closed very well.
By the way, my Surge seems to have a very weak spring action to close, but I never saw this fact reported on reviews. It happens that if hang by one handle, the other almost opens.
Thanks
Eduardo

I assume somebody from LM reads the forum, hopefully the marketing department.  :D

I live an a sparsely populated country of 3 million people, and I can easily think of 4 shops within a 5km radius where I could buy nearly the entire LM line for reasonably understandable prices (MSRP+import duties+transport)

Brazil has 200 million + people and the 10 largest cities have more people than my whole country

Missed opportunity much?  :D

Well, it´s an opportunity to rant a little...
There are no Leatherman on sale here, except for 2 guys on a kind of local ebay, called Mercado Livre.
They sell for around 2 times the USA price.
I´ve bought recently one Wave and one old model Surge for around 75 USA dollar each, but they were advertised as "no box no sheath". As the other seller had the replacement file and saw for the Surge I´ve bought them, which fortunately were new and in OK condition.
The file and saw pack that sell for 5 USD, cost me around 25 USD.
This is a weird market, we don´t have several new technology items that are common in other countries, for instance the same model of a European car sells here with a weaker motor (for instance Jeep Renegade).
There´s no diamond sharpener anywhere here and a Lansky sharpening systems sells for 150 USD.
I started to buy some small items from China, but the delivery time increased to 3 months then I quit.
Good led flashlights also don´t visit our country.
I guess the world was created in 2 parts, above and below Equator line...
By the way, will my friend be allowed to bring the Wingman in the checked luggage on the airplane?
Thanks,
Eduardo

Funny old world we live in....

My country is also in the Southern hemisphere, in fact I believe we're further South than Brazil.....?

However, Tim Leatherman himself has visited Namibia and several of the shops that sell his products  8)

Not sure it's the same everywhere but checked luggage should be fine.
