Kampfer's Off-Brand October
on: October 04, 2015, 01:44:08 AM
Day 1: Warming up.
Feel good to have something in pocket again.
First order of business, make sure everything is good to go.
Sharp blade, checked, Bit set, checked, everything is oiled, checked.

Day 1: First violation,
Need to cut some heavy duty double sided tape, Byrdrench has no scissors so this is not a good start for him.

Day 2: Need to take the barrel off for cleaning, the wrench on ByrdRench comes real handy, how many MT can do this?
Grab twist and pull

It separated itself to two independent tools, driver & wrench, there are no other MT can do that.

Week 1 Report:

I must say ByrdRench is one of the most interesting and unique MT ever made.
While it is not light but its thin profile makes it very comfortable to carry in pocket with its built in clip.
The 8cr13mov blade isn't very long but long enough for most cutting tasks and it performs very well.
It can detach itself to two independent tools, driver/knife & wrench, there are applications such function would be very handy.
In summary every function Byrdrench offers works well as designed.
I see it as a excellent bicyclist tool, just not sure why it included a rasp .

This multi is incredibly interesting. I may need to pick one up... eventually.

Just have to say, I love 8cr13mov as a knife steel. Takes a great edge very easily, and stays sharp reasonably long.

Yeah, I always thought it was a bit odd, especially when you realize the original version of this tool (the Spyderench) came with a what looks like diamond file.

For the 2nd week of October, I will be using a interesting key chain tool, Craftsman 45505.
All locking features, every tool and knife on the body of the handle, with the exception of the plier head, will lock into place.
This multi-tool features tools that are accessible while the tool is in its folded or closed position.

I very much dig that tool. My version is labeled IDL T-10, but it's the same tool. Ounce for ounce, maybe the best light pliers out there, and otherwise a solid tool. :tu:

Day 9:
Working on my costume today, use 45505 to undo some #2 screws, really so the limitation of small MT.
1st the driver is suppose for #1 screws, it slips a lot on #2. The tool is small, hard to grip for some real torque.
Yeah both small and big MT can drive screws, both try them both you will feel the difference.
2nd, dealing with a lot of duct tape and double sided tape, only a good pair of scissors can do the job. Surge save the day.
3rd, need an awl to bore out two 1" holes on the life support unit, I needed the best job for the job, Alox awl done it perfectly.
4th, 45505's small blade continue to impress me.
5th, 45505 cut some heavy zip ties, no problem there.
6th, Cut some wires clearly.

I think the wire cutting and plier ability of this tool is fantastic. Glad to see they eat zip ties for a light snack. :tu:

Agree, the limitation is set at the tool's handle, they are short and have sharp points at the ends. The pliers itself is way over built for the handles.
