Favorite beater single blade folding knife
on: October 17, 2015, 11:42:43 PM
When carrying a SAK,I usually carry a secondary beater blade for dirty messy non-food related jobs that may dull my SAK.

I have several I like and use but today this is my favorite:

Buck 112 I saved from the brink of the garbage can.

I got it at a flea market last year gunked up with paint and grime. It looks like someone took a hammer to it. I had to recondition the wood scales with mineral oil and even sand away a ruined area that i later filled with 2 part epoxy.

These feel great to hold in the hand.

I often carry a Mercator as food prep knife because it is easier to clean, and cutting on plates dulls the blade, carbon steel blade of  Mercator sharpen easy.

Good thread idea!

I guess mine would be a BassPro Members Special. It was a free 8" folding fillet knife . I use it to cut chum, rope, bait , and just about anything salsmurfer. When it's not in use its soaked in a jar of WD40.

I love carrying a Svord mini peasant or Opinel if I am going for a single blade beater.

Cool thread  :tu:
For work I often carry the BAK that I adjusted from a broken two layer to single blade,
Very slim, I can open it wearing gloves, easy to clean without worrying that I will damage the scales

Everything’s adjustable

Opens mail, opens packages and cuts up cardboard boxes and plastic cartons/bottles....has become the knife I use to do everyday "junk" jobs. Always on my table somewhere.

Hmmm, I guess my primary blade is also my beater too. I use it for everything. Opening mail, processing wood, carving wood, tactical butter spreading apparatus, cutting up food, cutting rope, cutting up boxes, gutting wild game, scraping battery terminals, scraping wire, cutting insulation, cutting myself sometimes, debarking wood, starting fires and the list goes on.

That's us mobile.

I'm in the ducttape camp. My primary blade is also my beater blade. My C33T cuts tape, packages, condiment packets, myself once in a blue moon, wrapping, materials, etc.

My secondary beater blade is my Gerber EAB. I cut pretty much anything with this since I can just replace the blade when necessary  :D

Thanks for the pics folks.  Great looking beaters

Here are 6 others that fall into this category for me but only 4 get carried in the rotation:

EKA little swede-great design. Can be taken apart for cleaning. Excellent steel.  WOW

Sears Craftsman lockblade-was likely made by Camillus.  Had a broken tip but I reprofiled

Opinel #7 drop point carbon-  When I carry it I keep a rubberband around it because it doesent lock closed.I must remedy that someday

Imperial Jack-  Steel gets a wicked edge.  Cheap scales will likely fall off one day

Klein- Hawkbill-  gardening/weeding use only.  It has opened a beer bottle or two

Victorinox Florist- was given new by a friend in 1992. Used for weeding/gardening.   Blade has been worn to a nub

Still looking for one. Currently, I'm torn between my #8 carbon Opinel and Vic 108mm Solo. I love the Solo but the Opinel wins due to better grip, solid lock and blade tip. It seems I don't mind ab-using that knife any more. Last time I was scaping wax remainders off candle holders with it.

I'd sure love me a Buck 110 or 112 :tu:
