So you have to be asked personally....  😀
See, someone with a German passport did come along

Just admit that you did not know the answer  :)  :)

Here's one: I once heard of a German word (which I quickly forgot) which means something like "finding beauty in things that are worn"...

PS: Please forget about the Oktoberfest. That doesn't have anything to do with real Bavaria any more, but is only some kind of disgusting stereotypical Disneyland for drunkards.

Harsh! True - but harsh :D

Since working in Bavaria a few years back, a group of former colleagues meet annually at Oktoberfest and get slaughtered. This year will be the 6th consecutive year and I love it :D
I used to come here a lot.

I get "Suche nach Schönheit in den Dingen, die getragen werden" for that (Google Translate).

Also, I didn't know that Pan-Germanism had modern refusers, inside BRD. Nothing political to what I'll say, but I have a warm spot in my heart for Bavaria (and Scotland and Sicilly), strictly in the cultural sense, which gets confused from BDR (and UK and RI) intermingling.

It was definitely a single word.

Here's one I could use some help with. Had a couple of years of German is school, and still have a German/English dictionary. However about all I can come up with for this is Special Fund for Trash Removal. Don't know if that's even close.

This one is so incredibly German, even though it comes from Switzerland!

Your translation hit it quite well, I'd roughly translate it with "Union with the purpose of clearing away the refuse in the area of (the river) Linth"
Yeah, neither very well-sounding nor anything like elegant... the German word "Kehricht" for example is so wonderfully antiquated that I doubt anyone from generation pokemon-selfie would understand it. A direct translation for it would be "sweepings", but the broader sense "refuse" seems more at place here.

"Zweckverband" as an expression is about as sexy as "supporting stockings" (which, btw, would translate with Stützstrümpfe", another word which illustrates the beautiful sound of the German language and why I prefer to speak Bavarian) and is one of the ugly children created by "Beamtendeutsch", the kind of German used in administrative functions.

Vielen Dank!
Might I add, that the 3 flags you see are from left to right: Glarus, Schwyz (The state not to be confused with Switerland, the country, also home to Ibach :D), and St. Gallen
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

It is relative to our own χαρμολύπη, νοσταλγία and such, words that describe feelings can never be precise, since sentiments are subconscious (and one could say unreasonable) and words are conscious (and reasonable, well, some times).

It should be referenced in the literature. What's the citation?

See? We did it. And it is referenced here, verse 1169 and onwards, at the final chorus

"finding beauty in things that are worn"
Believe me, in German I'm  quite good with words, but the expression you are looking for is quite a challenge.
For a single word I'd suggest "Trödel", but that is only a far shot.
