Boker Daggers
on: October 23, 2015, 12:13:38 AM
Just received the two Boker daggers I ordered: Schanz Integral (top) and Applegate-Fairbairn Desert Storm (bottom). Both knifes appear well-made and use 440C stainless steel. The A-F was made in Germany, has fiberglass reinforced handles and  seems to be the better handling of the two. The Schanz is a massive piece of steel with canvas micarta handles, and gives the impression of extreme ruggedness. It was made in Taiwan.

I like both knives. My only complains concern their sheaths. The A-F has a kydex sheath with a very complex mounting system, but no instructions. Had to go online to find out how to open and mount it. The Schanz has an all-leather sheath. Its okay, but not up to the quality of the knife.

Bought the A-F off ebay. Thought I got a good price.  Later found it for substantially less on Amazon.

Some people have had problems with the handles; don't know if its quality control or abuse. If you're worried about it get the Schanz. For me its not an issue. While I like the looks of a dagger, I'd be more likely to carry a general-purpose knife like a Fallkniven out in the field.

I've been interested in the Applegate Fairbairn Combat Knife for years (since well before Colonel Rex passed away) but I've never gotten one.  I have the folding version but not the fixed blade.

I agree though, probably not much use in the field if enemy combatants aren't lurking g behind every bush.
