Alright so today at the store there were two soldiers renting one of our trucks and to make a long boring story short, things got messed up and my boss helped them out.  One soldier comes back in and drops a black box on the counter and says to my boss "that's for you for helping us out."  I immediately saw BENCHMADE on the box and was like :o  So anyways my boss is like "what is it?"  ..."It's a very expensive knife."   "oh, thanks man!"

Turns out it's a Benchmade Stryker auto.  And it is expensive.

So before I left I said to my boss "How you doing on that Dewars?"
"runnin low.."
"How about I trade you a big bottle for that knife you got from that guy?"

So now that me, "the gadget guy", is interested in this knife he decides to look it over and make a decision...yup cuts himself ::)  Not too bad, like a papercut.  So he's playing around with the knife and I'm fully expecting him to start sawing the desk to see how sharp it is.  With my best poker face I said "so you want a huge bottle of whiskey or that knife?" and started walking towards the door...

"Yea I'll trade.."

So on the way home I bought a big $37 bottle of Dewars, and I'll have my first automatic knife, and first Benchmade.  It's not something I'd ever buy or carry...but it could come in handy in a trade at some point here or on bladeforums.

Just thought I'd share...not everyday a free Benchmade comes into the picture.

Nicely done   :salute:

I don't think we're even allowed to own one of them over here, never mind carry one!   :(

You're right.  :(

Assisted openers are the closest we will get to one of those.

So I got it today and had a chance to sit at my desk and look it over.  I can't think of any application where such a blade would have to be automatic.  The button has to be depressed by your thumb fingernail, and then after the blade is deployed, you have to "get your grip" on it.  You can't open it with gloves on.  And the blade itself (154cm) is heavy and shakes the whole knife in your hand when it opens.  Lockup is very solid though.

BUT, the build and overall quality is phenominal.  I've had my eye on the Griptilian series from Benchmade for a while now and after handling this bease I might get a Grip :D

Nah, it's just a cool toy like assisted openers, with no real practical purpose.

I'd suggest letting it go on eBay and making some money off it.  I know it sounds cruel, but if you don't get near the actual value of it, someone else will take it and profit from it.

That having been said, if you aren't looking for anything close to MSRP, let me know! :P

Technically you are not allowed to ship them across state line unless buyer has exemptions like being in the military and such, that could be why. Then again it's only technically.  ;)

Try your local craigslist and kijiji.

Or Knifeforums/Bladeforums.  They are technically not allowed to be sold on eBay, but many folks do anyway.

Oh well, never mind them then! :D

You are right though, about the laws regarding automatics.  Just a short recap, and I'd suggest looking into it closer if you do plan to sell it, but the laws are kind of funny.

Autos are legal in some states, but not others- check your local laws to see if they are legal in your state.

Inter state trafficking of an automatic knife is in violation of Federal Law, even between states where autos are legal.  If it's legal in your state, and it's legal in the next state, it's still illegal to cross state lines with it, and it's illegal to send them through the mail.

Military and LEO personnel are exempt from this law, and can carry automatic knives wherever the hell they want.

This may not be all the pertinent laws, so like I said, take the time to look up anything you are wondering about.  That having been said, I know many people that sell them on eBay and send them through the mail, take them on car trips etc, all without a problem.

I wouldn't consider sending it out of the country unless you have some official word that the blade is legal in that person's country.  Otherwise there's a pretty good chance that Customs will seize it, and that can cause problems.

A good way around Automatic issues is to remove the spring and send it separately, but that's up to you whether you want to do that.

Multitool.org takes no responsibility for the above legal information, it is up to the individual to research their own laws and assume full risk for getting molested in a federal jail by their new wife Ted.  Void where prohibited, see in store for details.
