I gave away my old Compact. I always missed the awl and Phillips.

Lo and behold, I scored a modded Compact in a trade that had them both. This is my perfect 2 layer SAK.  :)

Thanks  It's a standard D of E LINK and I tool the round nose away leaving a kind of sheepsfoot blade profile.

I might switch the back scale over for a plus scale to be able to add the pen without losing the logo on the front  :) It's early days with it yet, but I really like the sheepsfoot blade for package opening and other "scoring" cuts.

I think I'll probably remove the keyring attachment too

Nice set!  8)

Agreed!  :tu:

I really liked the Timekeeper, REALLY liked it, but just couldn't bring myself to carry it. I just knew it would get wrecked clattering against all the other crap in my pocket.  :-[

Well thanks to you it made its way to the bottom of Africa.  It keeps good time and has helped my young daughters learn how to tell time on an analogue watch.
Who says tools need traditional functions ;)

I also cant bring myself to carry it;

If a 91mm length is acceptable as there is something to be said for the shorter 84mm and 85mm lengths, and slimness is the overriding primary goal, the Compact has the greatest density of the most commonly desired primary tools, including full-size scissors in the thinnest package with just two layers. I was impressed when I read the list of them and was even more impressed when I got one and put it in my pocket.

The Compact is a mighty fine toolset. Still missing the Small Blade, though.

I got a Compact for my wife, it's sitting in a drawer as she won't use it nor let me take it

I've always been undecided on whether I like the Compact or not so much. It's the lack of prying and driving screws ability that really makes me prefer the Climber over the Compact ( Huntsman over both  ). I can forgo the small blade which I really like, however the fact that there's no awl on the Compact either just makes me go  :ahhh  :ahhh

I took a chance and gave my wife a Compact about 2 years ago. It was her first 91mm SAK, and I was not sure if she would actually use it. Well, it turns out she is now HOOKED. :D

It lives in her handbag, and she gets really annoyed if she forgets it at home. Every month or two I would give it a good wash, oiling and sharpening.

I feel the same as you about the Compact's lack of drivers and awl, and prefer the Climber.

Since I've carried the Compact for another full week without the need to swap for another model, here's to appreciating it some more:

Agreed Windson...more and more, all I've been carrying is the 91Golfer or my Compact mod (with Awl and Phillips)!

Funny, I have an old Golfer and an awl + Phillips mod myself, but I keep coming back to the standard Compact setup, if only for the added file on the hook.

Everytime I read this thread I think I'm missing out on something. Then I wander off and get distracted (lately by a few Classics). Perhaps it's time to find me a Compact. :dd:

It'd be good to have one for the file on the hook (I didn't think it possible to make the hook any more awesome!), but why are they so expensive?
