Today I bought a Classic sd as my Bijou's scissor spring broke a week or so ago. The Bijou is going into retirement. tom.  :salute:

Although I know it is a Spanish style navaja there are a couple thing about it that are puzzling me. It appears to be quite old and the construction is decent but not outstanding. The blade is etched with the word,"recuerdo" which according to my translator means either,"I remember" or,"souvenir" among other things.
The handles(front and rear)appear to be made of some type of white composition material and inset on either side is a small rectangle of what looks like Baltic amber(minus insect). The rearmost handles are held on with steel pins surrounded by conical brass washers.
As yet I haven't been able to track down the tang stamp and am hoping that someone on this forum might have seen this stamp. Any information would be greatly appreciated. As always it was photographed on a background of 1 inch(25.4mm) squares for size reference. Thanks for looking.

that's an odd one  :like:

"Recuerdo" means many things,
as a noun, a "Recuerdo" is either a "Souvenir" (something you take as a reminder of your travels or trip) or a "Remembrance" (something that you remember from your past) :tu:
as a verb, "Recuerdo" is the first person singular of the present of the verb "Recordar" (to remember), so "I remember" would be "Yo recuerdo"

It probably is the former one, the noun, so that means that the navaja is a souvenir or a piece to be remembered  :salute:

It probably is French, there are hundreds of thousand French made Spanish-styled navajas, and the "ILI" marking does not bring any company or author to mind (Spanish in origin, that is)  ??? and the curves and shapes of it are less Spanish looking that what you often see, they usually belong more to a "copy" or "homage" made elsewhere

sorry but I can't help you  much in this  :P
but it is a good looking piece
Peacent: Thank you for the dissection;you saw much more than I did.My reasoning that it was of French origin is the way the tang stamp was made i.e.:the number at 90 degrees to the actual stamp. There was a French web site at one time that showed many old and new tang stamps but for some reason I cannot access it anymore.

Came in yesterday and it's in great shape. Don't think it was used much at all. Nice patina on the blade and had never been sharpened. Great snap and no wiggle on the blade

That's got to be the bargain of the year. I wonder if SK will do a 12 variant of it in 154CM.

well not 154Cm, but I bet S30V 112 Slim could also be considered an upgrade  :salute:
and in three colors  :woohoo:

That is a big upgrade over 420HC.
But I wish Buck had left the thumb stud off, I just can't wrap my mind around a 112 with a stud.

Got in two new knives today sent both back for exchanges over quality issues. The GEC 44 was one I've waited months on. Hopefully they have one left when it gets back to exchange it with. It had a miss strike on the middle pivot rivet on the mark side right under the shield. No matter how you looked at it, it stuck out like a sore thumb. I bought another Smoke Jumper since they were so cheap. The one that came today had vertical and horizontal play when the blade was locked up. My first one locked up like a bank vault like it should. Hopefully the exchanges will be issue free.
