Got in two new knives today sent both back for exchanges over quality issues. The GEC 44 was one I've waited months on. Hopefully they have one left when it gets back to exchange it with. It had a miss strike on the middle pivot rivet on the mark side right under the shield. No matter how you looked at it, it stuck out like a sore thumb. I bought another Smoke Jumper since they were so cheap. The one that came today had vertical and horizontal play when the blade was locked up. My first one locked up like a bank vault like it should. Hopefully the exchanges will be issue free.
Thats a run of bad luck.
You wouldn't expect two with issues in one day, from two makers.

Two of these. I have never known Colonial to make a Lakota (marked "LAKOTA USA on the tang) knife (most of those I've seen were low end, Chinese made), but it sure looks like a Colonial Ranger to me.

Not to advertise, but I figured I'd post the Ebay link since these are really cheap for what they are at $5 each.

:like:  I think the standard yellow 3254 CV Trapper is one of the most common knives in existence.  I have a battered one I use a lot for farm work. The only problem I have with Case's CV knives, is that for about the past 15 years, they have stainless backsprings, and to me it should be solid carbon steel.

I'm beginning to really like Trappers, especially the Mini Trapper. Been carrying the Micarta scaled Wharncliffe Carhartt model a lot lately.

  Thanks Steve and David!I'm looking forward to them!  I agree with you Cody.  A yellow scaled Mini Trapper I'd on my EDC rotation, and I really like it.

Well, yes and no David.  There was some confusion between the seller and I regarding which knives I wanted.  Instead of the Case Trappers, I received 2 very old Queen Trappers, one of which was well worn.  The other one had a great bit of sharpening but had great lockup and cuts like a terror.  For the small amount I paid, I am happy.  I've never owned anything from Queen before, but I wish I had before they closed their doors.
Are they here yet Barry?

I don't have the following folders, but they are super cheap clearance at WM, was wondering if anyone has any of these or just pass on them, a couple have lower 5cr steel, think they were either $5 or $7:

Sog traction
Gerber Sharkbelly
Gerber One flip

This knife is absolutely stunning. I have never held anything with such quality, attention to detail, and fit and finish. I didn’t even know a knife like this existed.

I have been jealous  of your spydercos for years tho
I had already cleaned the amplitudes out, buy I did go back and get some more Gerbers and Sogs for $5-$7 and a gerber US1 for $3.50 :o, I think the lady who works there must think i'm crazy, this is a big ymmv clearance deal so only a few stores will still have stock/display of the cheapos, but can't hurt to look .
Yeah I will do a giveaway soon, not sure if it will be one of these or a Kershaw thats just a bit too heavy for me

I am always on the lookout for some good old Seki-born SOG knives, or at least Taiwan-born SOG knives of better known models. I got some luck so far with Taiwanese Demo, Trident 2.0, Tech Bowie 2.0 at very good prices. Lady luck smiled at me again. I am waiting on a Seki Tigershark, powder-coated, partially serrated model  :woohoo:

At Walmart? only Sogs they had by me were traction $5 and cash card $7 both made in china... my issue is only 1 of 5 stores that I could drive to without wasting a ton of gas had the clearance items, I gave up after striking out, don't think it pays to expand my driving radius for more disappointment, but I did really well at the one store closest to me.

Walmart?  >:(  :twak: eBay of course. When it comes to deals on eBay, patience is a virtue. I only ever regret not buying a new Recondo for $85, and a new Recon Bowie for about $230.
$185 is pretty much the limit for me. The two knives pushing me close to this max were a new Tomcat S4 with SMCA marking and a mint Trident S2. In term of collectibility, they seem like bargain  I do not have a deep pocket, so when buying these, I must be absolutely certain that they can be moved later and get my money back at minimum.  :tu:

Gonna fire out some quickie reviews on some of these cheapo deals I got

Gerber Sharkbelly

Pros:
  • Made In Usa
  • Good ergonmomics
  • Extremely Lightwieght FRN handle
  • Deep pocket carry

Cons:
  • Badly Centered, blade rubs on scales when closing, adjusting pivot does not move blade, I dont think it has washers
  • High MSRP for what you get, currently $31 on amazon which is really overpriced, there are a ton of Kershaws and Spyderco byrds that are cheaper and work better.
  • Flimsy wireclip similar to dragonfly clip, but not as robust, will probably not last long.
  • Not very sharp, fails paper cut test, but cut thick plastic bags of salt I use for water softener decently
  • Claims to be one handed opening on package but it has a very shallow cutout on blade and its awkward
  • Has some vertical lock rock

For the $7 I paid it's a good beater knife with medicore sheepsfoot blade. I think they are asking a premium price for it because of the USA made tag, but the quality control is poor on this sample and I dont recommend paying full retail for what you get, if you can find it for $7 it's decent
