Cheers Steve.  This is what it looked like before I did a little work.  I'm 99% certain that it had lost the tip at some point and it had simply been sharped to accommodate it.  Problem was that the tip was sitting proud of the handle when closed so dropping the back down to the cutting edge made sense to me.  has now had a bath and oil, just needs both the blades sharpened.

Great job !   :like: :tu:

Rosecraft Blades Appalachian Jack and French Broad Jack

Just from the look, and fit/finish, I expected these to be spendy if not custom folders.  It was quite a shocker to see them at an entry level price point.

My mind still can't quite wrap itself around the quality for the price of the RoseCraft blades.  That Appalachian Jack for $40 is absurd.

New to me Lockwood Brothers jack knife.  I've started on a bit of TLC already.  A somewhat worn/broken tip on the main blade has had a light reprofile.  Cleaning and sharpening will come later.

Good score buddy!   :like:

My father-in-law gave me a nice Ontario kitchen set for helping with a move.  I've removed the surface rust and oiled the handles.  They'll be sharpened up and put into action soon.

Thanks.  The set came with the old wall-hanging block with rope at the top that all these 5-piece sets used to come with, so it is complete.  I'm going to buy a more traditional block for them or maybe a in-drawer magnetic tray.  The in-laws used them sparingly and displayed them on the wall in the block.  They had a larger set that they used most of the time.  They have developed a nice patina.
