The price for the Signal has been $72.40 from the first day it appeared in inventory at CS,until it was raised to $74.80 just recently.

I don't understand why anyone would want to pay full retail price for any tool,SAk or Leatherman.

You don't have to leave your house, deal with traffic, waste time and gas and pay sales tax if you buy from dealers such as CS.
agreed. The price hike is simply for the tool with a nylon sheath.

Keep in mind, the MSRP is set by the OEM and based off their sell price to the distributors.  The distributors operate in the margin range between cost and MSRP in order to set the price necessary to make a profit at their particular margin requirements.  If the MSRP is set particularly high against the sell price to the distributors this would indicate that the OEM felt the market could bear high margin returns.  High sales volumes would allow the OEM to then raise prices higher on the distributors than the distributors could on the buying public, thus raising long term revenues for the OEM and squeezing the per item margin for the distributor but still allowing for healthy profit due to higher sales volume.  Obviously online distributors will have far less "overhead" than brick and mortar distributors, but in this case it's still a good indicator that the tool cost of manufacture is is not ridiculously high.  R&D costs, production setup/implementation, marketing, etc for a whole new product all go into that analysis.  My guess is over time, if the tool survives, the costs will significantly decrease.  Of course they gotta have Wave like sales to get it below Wave like prices.

Thanks for the tip off. I just bought one without the Sheath. Was waiting to get a used Signal down the road for about $60 so could not pass up on this deal. Now the waiting...  :wait:

Can someone tell me if the hammer is a different shade?

Imagine one of these with BO instead of SS.

Right ! That would be nice. The hammer is more of grayish color.
