I've never been a fan of knives that duplicate blade types, but that sure is a perty Muskrat.  :tu:  Do you mind telling me what the dealer is?

I guess it's hard to resist Northfields, even for a stainless guy, huh?  Well, I can understand that.  ;)

NutSAK,

I got the NF Muskrat from http://www.soonerstateknives.com/index.html.

Been buying from him for years, even before Mike's site. Ken is a real good guy and his shipping is fast.

Zed,

Nice set-up bud. But it looks like you got it almost full already. Might need to get yourself a hobby chest soon.

Probably a Camillus TL-29 / Electrician's knife; they're excellent knives, Tony. :)

Got myself a couple new ones this week thanks to a fellow collector who was willing to part with these beauties. Both are Queen built Robesons, from the 2008 Pocketeze run. Both in genuine Torched Stag and bladed in D2 Tool Steel.......

Stag Canoe:
(Image removed from quote.)

Interesting.  It appears you and I have Canoes that were at one time part of the same collection.  See here.

This is the one I bought off the collectorknives forums, which is the same as the "PB" one from the link above.

I wish mine had D2 steel!  :-\  He has some nice ones in that collection.

NutSAK,

Yeah, got mine from comicinkdood. I was looking to get them other Canoes but other things happened my way and I just couldn't swing both.

The last production Robesons were done in D2 and of the Pocketeze line, I have these two I got from him as well as the Large Stockman in Stag in D2, and a couple bone handled Gunstocks and a bone handled Canoe from this series when they first came out. The previous run to these are where yours comes from.....I have several Canoes and Railsplitters from that run as well and they were all in 420HC stainless that I recall.

The Robesons are SFO pieces ordered through SMKW's. They mentioned last night on their Knives Live show that another Robeson series is in the works and will be coming out soon!  :2tu:

Thanks for the news, I'll keep an eye on SMKW for the new Robeson run.  I've seen pics of your Robeson Railsplitters many times as I've researched--love them all, especially that horn Mastercraft.  I finally have an S&M amber wormgroove railsplitter on the way now.  I'm really looking forward to that one.  :tu:  I also picked up a #73 Northfield "S" EDC in blood red bone for a decent price.

I suggest watching their show as it's likely the only way you are going to catch them, at least until some make it to Ebay. The last Series that was produced only made it to their show. None of them ever wound up on their website or in their cataloges. They generally sell out quick.

Even recently they have had several releases of Robeson "Seconds" in the past few months, all from the Pocketeze Series.....all sold out during their airings.

Got a couple new one's in recently. Earlier this week actually but today was when I finally got around to taking some pics.

This first one is a new old stock Great Eastern. 2007 production Northfield Muskrat in Snakewood......

Am a little disappointed in this one as the handle material doesn't match well between sides, as you can see here on the pile side......

Still, it's a rock solid, well built piece of typical GEC quality.......

Next one is my first Case Humpback. For Stockman patterns from Case the #75 and #47 are the only ones that have really ever caught my interest. But when these new #046 patterns were released, I was intrigued.

It's in Smooth Chestnut Bone. It's a good looking piece. For a Stockman it's a tad on the small size for me but it does fit pretty well in the hand. F&F is great, the knife is pretty much rock solid. And I was surprised by the stoutness of the backsprings. I've found most of Case's smaller patterns usually come with what I call light backsprings, not lazy just lighter than what I like. But this thing has backsprings on it like if it was made by GEC. Very nice!

What I am not sure about is the fit of the backsprings. Mine has what appears to be a slight hairline gap running the entire length of the knife between both backsprings.....

.......it's slight, and I can see no light through it. But as this knife doesn't use a brass spacer between the springs, the springs being butted right up against each other, I don't know if this is truely a gap or just a slight rounding of the edges along these backsprings that make it appear to be a gap. As I said, I can nothing through there when held up to a light.  :-\

But anyway, overall it's a great knife. And the hefty backsprings were a welcome surprise. I do believe I will be getting more of this pattern.

:tu: Oh, that humpback is VERY nice.  That's the first I've seen of the smooth chestnut, and it looks like they've done a great job with it.  I prefer the look of smooth scales on this pattern--this one and the micarta whittler both have very clean lines, and I think the jigged scales disrupt that look.  Good to hear that your main isn't lazy like the one on my whittler too.  I would suspect you're right about the rounded edges on the springs, considering Case's habit of over-polishing their steel.

trey,

Thanks bud, I try!  ;)

NutSAK,

They did pretty well with the smooth bone on this Case. I really like the mark side scale as it has a slight mottled look and is a bit lighter in color. The pile side is darker and more solid throughout, and while I do like my smooth bone a more solid consistant color.....this Chestnut color actually looks real good a bit mottled with the variation of hues. Can't say that I find any of the jigged variations better or worse for looks on this pattern. Need to get a jigged version in hand to really say and I am eyeing the Harvest Orange one as my next possible #046.

I was really surprised by the backsprings. When I took it out of the box I was expecting #18 type backsprings, rather light. I found out quick this wasn't the case and had to really set my thumbnail into the pulls on this one to get the blades open. And on all three. I really like that. This thing walks and talks very well.

Thanks Paul.  Yes, that Wharncliffe mini trapper is the same model as yours.  Coincidentally, I got mine just a couple of weeks before you first posted a pic of yours.

See here: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,6299.msg479846.html#msg479846

There are only a couple in the pic that I haven't posted here before.  At lower right, the Great Eastern Cutlery Northfield #73 Scout in blood red bone, and just below the Case Barlow is a Queen trapper jack or "dogleg" jack in birdseye maple.  The Scout is my newest knife and for some reason the birdseye maple on that Queen is very hard to photograph.  When the birdseye is photographed, the white balance has to be just right or colors show that aren't present to the eye.  This photo is fairly representative--it appears grey with slight purpleish tones.

NutSAK,

Very nice group pic. The vibrant colors stand out real well between them all. Cool background choice as well, gives everything a almost wet look.

I know what you mean with the BEM on the Queen. For ones with lighter scales the purple comes out a bit more. Of the two I have the colors vary noticably between the two. My Gunstock has none of that slight purplish hue and is much darker, almost green in a way......

On the Large Stockman you can just barely get a hint of that slight purple. The grain of the wood itself I think plays a large part in the color variation.......

My Gunstock version is the only one from the BEM run I've seen with this particular look, all the others I have handled or seen pics of look more like my Large Stockman.
