AMEFA DAK ?
on: November 10, 2015, 03:26:12 PM
What is the deal with the Original Dutch army knife  made by AMEFA. Are these the same quality as the Vic DAK's ?
I see they have a different can opener.

AMEFA is a Dutch manufacturer that mainly produces kitchen knives. AFAIK they used to make the DAK until 1998, after that they switched to Victorinox. I have one at home and the quality is okay-ish. Mine doesn't have the "snap" that Victorinox usually has.

Second try at this

Ok,so there's two models of Alox AMEFA DAK. The first pattern(72-74?) features a blade, awl and a combo tool, rather than a opener layer. The second pattern is based on the M1961. It ran 75-83 if my memory serves. At that point,Victorinox sued AMEFA,and won,and took over the Dutch military contract.

I've got two of the later pattern. They're not bad. Back springs can be a bit hit and miss, but the tools are ok. F and F isn't close to Vic standards. It's not bad if you can get one at the right price.

Great info Kirk, thanks! How'd you know Victorinox sued AMEFA? I can't find any sources about this online.

Never heard about Victorinox having sued Amefa before. And I doubt it's true.

Fosco made a fake DAK as well by the way (KL 95 I think?).
You should seriously visit vicfan.com. All the hoopy froods are doing it.

I have a Fosco 95 DAK aswell. The quality is even worse compared to the AMEFA one

That's the one I like the most, mostly cause of the unique tool loadout.
