Greetings!
on: August 22, 2008, 09:11:34 PM
Hello all,
I have been checking this site out for about 1 month and can't take it anymore...I admit it, I'm a multi-tool junkie and need help...  I am an ex-farm boy from Northern CA. (yes there is farmland in California) and been using pocket knives and SAKs for as long as I can remember.  I love the SAK vs. Leatherman debates on here and am looking forward to joining in... it's a great site.

Nothing like a little hard work to keep you honest... or at least out of trouble.

Good to have you Hickster!  If you are a multitool junkie, we are either the best or the worst place to be.  If you are looking for a 12 step program, you aren't likely to get it here, but if you are looking for a 12 tool program, you may have found the right place!  :D

What have you got, what do you like, and what survived farm life the longest?  Also, what kind of farming were you into?

Thanks for the great welcome!
Hey Defender, we grew Bartlett Pears and various row crops (wheat, corn, safflower, tomatoes) and the blades of choice were Case trappers, Camilus Boy Scout knives and SAKs with a few Buck 110s thrown in there.  My grandfather and father were Case guys while I always liked the versatility of the SAKs...until the Leathermen came along.  I wish the PSTs were around when I was a kid, we would have went crazy for them.  Now that I'm off the ranch I use the multis for various outdoor activites (camping, rock climbing, hiking, kayaks and fishing).  I have some leathermans (PST, PST II, Pulse, Supertools, Supertool 200, Wave, Charge Ti, juice, and Skeletools), some early Gerbers, SOG Paratool, and Swisstools (Swisstool, Swisstool X and a recently purchased Sprint).  My favorites have to be the Sprint (for camping) and the Skeletool (fishing and climbing).  As you can see, I do have a serious addiction.  Thanks again for the warm welcome.

Hey Mickyd,
Yea, the Spirit is a great tool, but why the serrated straight razor blade instead of their normal blade?  That would be the only thing I would change on it but still a sturdy piece.

Welcome Hickster  :D Good news on the Spirit front , you can get the Spirit S that swaps the Scissors for a plain edge blade or there is a new Spirit that Swaps the Serrated blade for a plain one and keeps the Scissors but thats not yet available in the States .
