LM Signal Outdoors Reviews?
on: November 27, 2015, 01:02:00 AM
My thoughts on the Signal's design are well documented here now, and I'm seeing some people using them as general use MTs, and there's a few folks attempting to create an "Urban MUT" from them. I don't recall seeing any write ups on them being used as intended though.

Have our "Outdoorsmen" bought one and used them out in the woods, or are they just being picked up by our urbanites? Do we have any reviews of them in an outdoor pursuits setting yet?

I appreciate this might not be the best time of year for spending playtime in the great outdoors for some people  :D

I have not messed with one yet. Might be a while before I do. However, there are a few aspects where it can be useful. But for the most part, I don't hardly use any multi or SAKs while in the fields or bush. Fixed blades rein supreme in those settings. As much as I like my SAKs, SOGs and LM, they hardly get used. But there is nothing that says a survival situation has to be in the woods or bush. This is where pliers and other tools will come in handy. Or things like fixing a shotgun or a rifle on a hunting trip. That 4 wheeler that won't start.

But, let's keep one thing in mind, all multis and SAKs are compromises of regular tools and knives. Does not  matter if it says Huntsman or Signal or the tool load out, it is still a multi.

I still would like to try one out.

Yeah, someone do it!  :pok:

Not only can we finally get a full outdoors in-use write up on the Signal, but we can actually get Zoidie doing something useful too....

Totally agree that a survival situation could be anywhere and for many different reasons Nate  :tu: However, this and so many other "survival" products seem to be woodland biased. There's two different types of survival, one is imminent risk of loss of life, and the other is a marketing concept  :D

It just seems that the exposure we've seen on the forum so far is either folks (like me) looking at it on the web in comparison with tools they are familiar using, and others using it away from where the marketing suggests it will save the day. Whether compared to other products, or as a standalone review, it would be nice to see someone more neutral than me  :P putting it through it's paces in an outdoor setting

Nah, send it to Zoidberg. He's more rural and his backyard is literally bordering on the outdoors. I'm city dweller and not sure yet how much will be spending outdoors in NZ this Summer. If I get to go to make it to Te Urewera forest with my boys in the end, I'll let you know. Would be good to put this tool to a real test.

I must agree. He started off by saying he'd used a couple of things on a recent trip, then went through all the other stuff simply saying it "could" have been useful.

Save the review till AFTER the you've used the bloody thing  ::) let's have a bit of substance to it, other than what tools it has, and whether someone might find a use for it! I always feel short changed after watching/reading a review if I could have got most of the info off the advertising. Tell us what we don't already know
