Leatherman Ratchet
on: January 01, 2016, 02:06:24 PM
Wouldn't it be great I Leatherman made a ratchet that worked with their bit kits. Vic has their ratchet and bit set but LM has a very nice compact bit kit. Why not make a ratchet to go with them?

LM bits work fine with the Vic ratchet, just replace the Vic extender with the LM extender...
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Can you use the bits without the extender?

Yes, you can put the bits into the ratchet (else the LM extender wouldn't work either).

That's good to know. Thanks. I may have to invest in a Vic set now.

Just mod one to fit your bit driver.  :pok:  I like the reversible 1/4" ratchet, but I used one you have to flip over to reverse so it would fit inside. It is still removable but I'm keeping it in all the time.

Can I join the club? I have a few more plans for it, but I submit my Surge HVAC Pro!

Nice one!   :tu:   You are in!

Thanks Had to try the blunt nose to see how I like it after you were so fond of it Zoidberg. I tried adding a ratchet a while back on the outside, but that involved hacking off some metal from the outside. Here are some more pics.

You would have to get a reversible ratchet to use the bits without the extension.

I'd use it. How bout a cylindrical ratchet that folds into the handle!

Is the Vic ratchet reversible or do you have to flip it over?  I'm wondering if it would be a better option for me too. How is it in size comparison to a 1/4" ratchet in thickness of the head and length from the tip to the reversing lever?

You have to flip it over.  Rather small, smaller than most 1/4" ratchets.
Here it is sandwiched between the Leatherman Bit Kit.

Does the bit stay in it or slide through?

That picture helps alot. It's good to know we can rely on Victoriox to fill the gaps

It has pretty good retention with a split ring in the head.

There are some good small ratchets.

LM bits fit but have to say not very handy.

Issue is to find a case for belt carry. Vic has a good sheet for plus set that does include tool and bit set (and cork screw). From LM I have found just case for tool plus one slide from bit kit set (maybe can fit two but getting too tight). Again if you carry vic ratchet set and LM bit kits, you start to have quite plenty stuff. If LM would provide perfect case for juice and bit adapter plus some bits, I think I would use LM solution more often. Currently don't have LM bits in edc mainly because lack of good case. With tool having LM adapter LM solution is ok.

I often use mine with a craftsman 42161 1/4in ratcheting box wrench, though the bits do pass trough with out the extender

I usually use this reversible ratchet by Iron Ton- from Northern Tool. I like it because you can use either the Leatherman bit kit or SOG's and whatever else you want. It has pretty good retention. The Leatherman bit extender isn't held in, but it's not a big issue. It was just a little too wide to fit the inside of my SURGE.

I paired a Topeak ratchet with my ST300. Absolutely love it!

I've thought about getting one of those before, it has been sitting in my wish list on Amazon for a few months now... But the Vic ratchet is tempting to... :ahhh

The same ratchet as yours with another brand printed on it (popular brand in Chile, mid quality low price, I guess it's builded somewhere else) it came in another set of tools so I took it for my Surge belt sheath and carry it on the side elastic pocket.
I have really pushed hard onto this little ratchet and has never let me down.

I am looking forward to see if LM brings up its own ratchet to market. This year it could have been a good one to do it. We all were expecting new products to appear.

Be careful not to lose it! I use to carry it in the elastic of a nylon LM pouch and it kept sliding out. I eventually lost one and had to buy another one. :ahhh

Maybe you could stitch up the bottom or around the sides where the head would not slide through.

It doesn't seem to trend to slide since the ratchet head is wider than the body and the ratchet still sits on the sheath leather bottom. But, the elastic could loosen its tension and cause me troubles. There is no space within the sheath. I need to figure out something.

Yah, it's fine until the elastic loosens.
